Test Engineer

About the Role Our client’s Gilbert, AZ facility is a leading designer of spaceflight hardware within the Spacecraft Avionics business unit in the Space & Defense Group. The team supports advanced aerospace and defense programs including crewed spaceflight, lunar exploration, satellite communications, asteroid research missions, and satellite bus platforms.
Our client is seeking a Test Engineer to support Aerospace Test Engineering, Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) development, Embedded Systems integration, and Integration & Test (I&T) activities for Broad Reach products. This role combines hardware design, embedded software development, test automation, environmental testing, and compliance documentation in a regulated aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manufacture Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) to support aerospace avionics validation and verification
- Develop complete EGSE test systems including test hardware design, embedded software, and controlled technical documentation
- Support Units Under Test (UUT) containing embedded Single Board Computers (SBCs) interfacing with analog and digital I/O for Command & Data Handling (C&DH) within a cPCI architecture
- Support Electrical Power Systems (EPS) testing, including subsystem power switching, solar array switching, and battery charging validation
- Perform COTS instrumentation selection and integration for automated aerospace test systems
- Design custom test enclosures, fixtures, and cable assemblies to meet system-level and contractual verification requirements
- Execute system validation, verification (V&V), and environmental testing in accordance with aerospace compliance standards
Software & Automation Responsibilities
- Develop VxWorks embedded test code using C programming for SBC platforms and real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Create National Instruments LabVIEW virtual instruments (VIs) for instrument control, telemetry monitoring, and user interface (UI) development
- Develop Python or PERL scripts to support test automation and coordinated execution of VxWorks and LabVIEW environments
- Support FPGA-related activities with exposure to VHDL programming preferred
- Implement automated test procedures to support integration, acceptance testing, and system qualification
Documentation & Compliance
- Create and maintain assembly drawings, electrical schematics, parts lists, and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Develop cable drawings and interconnect documentation using Microsoft Visio
- Author Integration & Test Plans (ITPs), Environmental Test Plans (ETPs), and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) as customer deliverables
- Document compliance with customer requirements, contractual specifications, and aerospace design standards
- Manage engineering documentation within a formal document control system
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
3–5 years of experience in aerospace test engineering, electronics testing, or embedded systems development
Hands-on software development experience in C, LabVIEW, Python, or PERL
Experience working with embedded systems, SBC hardware, RTOS environments such as VxWorks, and automated test equipment
Familiarity with COTS instrumentation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, or system-level integration
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Visio, Word, and Excel
Experience creating cable drawings and supporting electrical documentation
Ability to execute assignments with direction while maintaining accountability and ownership
Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and commitment to on-time execution
