Job Description And Position Requirements
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Applied Biomedical Engineering is seeking a part-time Research Support position to assist in the animal operating room. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in biomedical engineering and animal research, have knowledge of surgical equipment and aseptic technique. They will be responsible for performing a variety of job duties, including: assisting in complex in vivo and in vitro procedures, handling biological fluids while working in tandem with surgeons intraoperatively, preparing the sterile field, surgical preparation and draping of patients and preparation of necessary surgical materials and supplies utilized in complex surgical cases. This position will also train others in equipment operation and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities. They will serve as liaison with various research parties participating in the animal operating facilities.
This is a part-time position working 24 hours or less a week on campus. The demand for work hours will be dependent upon the surgical schedule and funding for the research.
Preferred Experience/Education Guidelines:
Bachelor’s Degree
3-5 years related experience necessary
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
