Role and Responsibilities
• Manage the Non-Perishable Food and Merchandise Operations under the supervision of the Store Manager.
• Assist with inventory management, merchandise presentation, and customer service.
• Follow company processes to receive, open, unpack, stock, rotate, and display merchandise.
• Restock returned and recovered merchandise and assist in maintaining inventory accuracy.
• Open and close the store a minimum of one day per week; authorize refunds and overrides; count register and deposit funds at the bank.
• Assist with scheduling, payroll entry, and ordering to ensure stock levels meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Support plan-o-gram implementation, merchandise staging, and seasonal directives.
• Maintain safety standards, conduct safety meetings, and provide a clean, organized, and secure shopping environment.
• Provide leadership and superior customer service in the Store Manager's absence.
• Comply with company policies and procedures and assist in ensuring employee compliance.
• Operate cash register and scanner, bag merchandise, and ensure accurate transactions.
• Assist in execution of the store’s 7 Day Workflow Plan, including stocking standards and Find-Fill-Fix procedures.
Required Skills and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• Three years of retail store experience preferred.
• One to two years of experience as a Department Head/Assistant Manager in a retail grocery or equivalent, or a current DG key carrier with similar experience.
• Ability to read operating statements and implement corrective actions.
• Understanding of cash, facility, and safety control practices, including deposit handling and key management.
• Knowledge of food handling regulations and ability to obtain required local and state food handling certifications.
• Familiarity with inventory, merchandising, and ordering procedures.
• Effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Competency in basic math functions and cash handling procedures.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems for store operations and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of recruiting, hiring, counseling, and termination practices.
• Experience with plan-o-gram implementation and seasonal merchandising planning.
• Proficiency in store-level safety and sanitation practices.
