ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Installation Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be crucial in ensuring that all shipyard safety procedures are adhered to while leading the design and installation of electrical systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading electrical installation and outfitting design activities for specified vessel areas.
  • Reviewing design packages for completeness and compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Creating production work packages, including installation drawings and material lists.
  • Coordinating design deliverables with various departments for efficient vessel construction.
  • Providing field engineering support and resolving installation issues during construction.
  • Developing and processing Design Change Notices (DCNs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) as needed.
  • Collaborating with design subcontractors and vendors to clarify installation requirements.
  • Supporting testing and commissioning activities with relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintaining documentation within the shipyard's Documentation Control System (DCS).
  • Tracking material status and supporting logistics for installation activities.
  • Proposing technical and process improvements for installation efficiency and quality.
  • Traveling domestically and internationally as required for vendor coordination and inspections.
  • Managing cable schedules and conducting onboard surveys.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position will provide technical leadership to designers and junior engineers but will not have direct personnel management responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; technical diploma with 7-10+ years of experience in ship design and/or construction may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in shipbuilding, system design, or manufacturing.
  • Experience with electrical systems or electrical design and construction.
  • Knowledge of electrical outfitting, cable routing, and shipboard installation practices.
  • Strong understanding of ship design processes and modern shipbuilding methods.
  • Experience in resolving field installation issues.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CAD systems, such as AutoCAD or Aveva Marine.
  • Familiarity with Classification Society Rules, IMO Regulations, and US Coast Guard Requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work in this position will involve exposure to environmental elements typical of heavy industrial settings, including noise, heat, and cold. Inclement weather conditions may also be encountered.

  • Note: This facility is a TOBACCO-FREE environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
