Job Summary
The Data Engineer plays a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing data solutions that support business operations and strategic decision-making. This position partners with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data pipelines, reporting solutions, and advanced analytics capabilities. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with analytical thinking to drive innovation and deliver high-quality, reliable data products.
Essential Functions
- Honesty and truth. Deliver accurate and actionable insights by analyzing and interpreting data from backend systems to support business needs, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Committed to serve. Translate business and functional requirements into scalable data solutions by collaborating with stakeholders to clearly define, document, and prioritize data needs.
- Results matter. Produce clear, concise, and maintainable technical documentation that enables efficient development, knowledge sharing, and long-term support of data systems.
- Measurement. Design, develop, and enhance ERP and business intelligence reports to improve visibility, reporting efficiency, and decision-making capabilities.
- Compulsive tinkering. Build and implement innovative data solutions leveraging generative AI and LLM technologies (cloud or local), including chat and voice-enabled interfaces, to enhance user interaction with data.
- Dedication. Ensure data reliability and system performance by monitoring, maintaining, and proactively addressing issues within production data pipelines and jobs.
- Mastery. Develop, optimize, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Python, SSIS, or Dagster to support efficient data integration and transformation.
Requirements, Education And Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with enterprise-level data systems
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools such as Tableau (or similar), Excel, Crystal Reports, and SSRS
- Hands-on experience with applied LLMs, including custom NLP-to-SQL solutions, Python integrations, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures across backend and user-facing applications
- Strong understanding of relational database management systems (RDBMS), SQL, and data structures
- Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and creativity in developing data-driven solutions
- Experience developing test cases and supporting testing/automation processes
- Proficiency with Python and ETL/ELT orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or similar platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Legal authorization to work in the United States

Travel
Position may require up to 5% travel by personal vehicle to offices throughout the state of New York, and New England based on the needs of the business.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
This job operates in an office and professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. On occasion the job will require going out in the field and various organizations and schools/institutions. This is mostly sedentary outside of travel in an office space. This would require the ability to sit at a desk, frequent walking, bend or stand as necessary.
