Job Title: Technical Project Manager
Job Summary
The Technical Project Manager provides leadership and oversight for a complex, cloud-based agentic AI system development initiative involving multiple internal teams and university/college partners. This role is responsible for (1) managing cross-functional technical teams to ensure alignment with mission objectives, (2) overseeing project schedules, quality standards, and compliance requirements, and (3) fostering collaboration across government, academic, and technical stakeholders. The position plays a critical role in driving project success, operational excellence, and strategic program growth within a mission-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all teams supporting the multifaceted technical project, ensuring alignment with established objectives, timelines, and performance goals
- Lead one or more project subtasks and oversee technical personnel across various disciplines
- Drive progress toward program objectives while maintaining quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction standards
- Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Assurance programs
- Recruit, interview, and hire qualified staff to support current and future project needs
- Assign staff and provide technical direction to ensure timely and successful task completion
- Train, mentor, and supervise assigned personnel to promote professional development and operational excellence
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal teams and external partner organizations
- Monitor project metrics, risks, and deliverables to ensure consistent performance and accountability
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field (required)
- Demonstrated experience managing IT or technical development projects
- Experience supervising and directing technical teams
- Experience working in structured or compliance-driven environments
- Experience supporting cloud-based or software development initiatives (preferred)
Special Requirements
- Ability to work onsite in a regional location
- Experience implementing or overseeing Quality Assurance processes
- Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid approaches) preferred
- Ability to coordinate across government, academic, and technical stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of IT systems, cloud-based platforms, and software development lifecycles
- Knowledge of AI-related development environments or emerging technologies (preferred)
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- Ability to provide technical direction and oversee cross-functional collaboration
Additional Desired Characteristics
- Experience working with university, research, or government-affiliated programs
- Experience managing multi-organization or partnership-based initiatives
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP or equivalent) preferred
- Experience recruiting and building technical teams
- Familiarity with compliance, governance, or federal program requirements
Work Environment
This position is based onsite within a regional office environment. The role involves collaboration with multiple internal teams and external partners. Occasional coordination meetings or partner engagement activities may be required.
