Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer II to support the engineering and integration of hardware and software systems for electric utility infrastructure. This role focuses on the design, configuration, and integration of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) used in substations and electric distribution systems.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working in lab environments, supporting system prototyping, device configuration, and integration activities. This position plays a key role in enabling detailed design efforts aligned with CAD-based engineering deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engineering and integration of hardware and software for programmable and configurable devices in electric substations and power systems
- Support detailed design efforts by collaborating with design teams producing CAD drawings and system layouts
- Configure, program, and integrate devices such as:
- Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs)
- Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
- Protective relays and control systems
- Network and communication devices
- Meters, transformer monitors, and transducers
- Conduct lab-based prototyping, testing, and system validation
- Design and support connectivity, networking, and communication protocols across devices
- Assist in troubleshooting integration issues and optimizing system performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, and field personnel
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and project requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 2–5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in utilities, substations, or power systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Access)
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with programmable/configurable devices such as RTUs, regulator controls, and recloser controls
- Familiarity with IEC-61131 programming standards
- Experience with DNP3 protocol (serial and IP-based communications)
- Programming experience in VB.NET or other high-level languages
- Knowledge of substation automation, networking, and IED integration
- Hands-on experience in lab testing, system setup, and device integration
