Job description

Role Summary

We are looking for a seasoned Electro‑Mechanical Engineering Lead to guide the end‑to‑end development of complex, reusable capital medical systems. This individual will be responsible for driving technical execution from early ideation through design lock, working in close partnership with cross‑functional stakeholders including R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and external suppliers.

The ideal candidate brings deep mechanical engineering expertise paired with hands‑on experience in electro‑mechanical assemblies, hardware‑software integration, and regulated product development. This role serves as the technical owner for a flagship capital platform and collaborates with both internal, geographically distributed teams and external partners.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct the engineering design and development of reusable electro‑mechanical capital medical equipment from early concept through finalized design
  • Act as the primary technical authority for a major product platform, leading design strategy and execution decisions
  • Partner closely with cross‑functional teams across engineering, marketing, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, procurement, and supplier organizations
  • Create and maintain comprehensive design control documentation, including user requirements, design specifications, verification and validation plans, risk assessments, and technical files
  • Support hands‑on testing and evaluation in both bench‑top and clinical‑like environments, including troubleshooting and performance assessments
  • Collaborate with external vendors and contract manufacturers to design, build, and validate prototypes
  • Lead and coordinate cross‑functional development teams, including engineers, designers, technicians, and third‑party contractors
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff
  • Participate in limited domestic and occasional international travel to support development efforts and cross‑site collaboration

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing electro‑mechanical products, capital equipment, or complex systems
  • Demonstrated experience with software‑enabled mechanical systems
  • Strong working knowledge of design controls and documentation practices within regulated industries
  • Proficiency in interpreting and generating engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems independently and operate effectively in ambiguous environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative mindset

Preferred Background

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Prior experience in medical devices, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601, tolerance analysis and stack‑up methodologies, and mechanical CAD tools
  • Experience supporting both early‑stage product development and post‑launch or sustaining engineering activities

Travel Expectations

  • Occasional travel (approximately 6–8 trips per year), including periodic collaboration with a secondary engineering location
