Job description

The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College announces an opening for a full-time Financial Aid Advisor in the Financial Aid Office.& Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, this full-time hourly position is offered with a comprehensive benefit package including health insurance, retirement, life and disability insurance, paid leave, educational benefits, and all other benefits associated with full-time employment. & Essential Duties:

  • Counsel parents and students through the application process, review financial aid forms, analyze financial& need, review and administer awards to ensure accuracy of federal, state, and institutional aid offered to students.
  • Determine financial need as prescribed under congressional need analysis and federal regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of all federal, state and institutional rules and regulations governing financial aid programs.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of awards, all program regulations, and the compilation of data for specified reports.
  • Review, interpret and process Federal Student Aid reports, including verification of applicant information and payment authorization.
  • Certify loan applications and provide entrance and exit counseling for each recipient and for problem resolution associated with timely distribution of loan proceeds.
  • Responsible for monitoring academic progress of students, responding accurately and professionally to student and parent questions concerning eligibility requirements and applications procedures, awarding and distribution policies.
  • Assist students/parents in filling out financial aid forms
  • Conduct presentations or seminars for students and parents during the academic year (including evenings)
  • Cooperate with other university offices to insure timely and accurate information of student information
  • Work with IT in the utilization of computer applications for financial aid.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid. Position Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience working in a college financial aid office preferred
  • Must be familiar with government financial aid regulations
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends or as needed
