At AIA we don’t simply believe in being ‘the best’. We believe in better – because there’s no limit to how far ‘better’ can take us. Everything we do is driven by our purpose to make a difference by helping people embrace Healthier, Longer, Better Lives. And every one of our people has an important role to play. If you want to make a difference by helping shape a healthier, better-protected Australia, read on.
The Opportunities:
The Regulatory Manager oversees AIA Australia’s relationships with key regulators including APRA and ASIC, as well as other agencies such as the ACCC and FIRB when required. The role manages both ongoing, reactive regulatory engagement such as scheduled submissions, reviews, information requests, and liaison activities, as well as proactive engagement on regulatory issues linked to upcoming business initiatives.
The role acts as the custodian of AIA’s regulatory reputation, providing strategic advice to business stakeholders, managing regulatory submissions and responses where not handled by industry bodies, and ensuring consistent, coordinated interaction with regulators. It also delivers reporting and insights to executives and Boards, including early indicators of changes in regulatory sentiment or regulatory relationship risk.
This role is for Melbourne or Sydney.
To do this successfully you will:
Provide confident regulatory leadership and advice, monitoring regulatory developments across APRA, ASIC, AUSTRAC and Privacy, translating requirements into clear business impacts, and enabling safe, timely business decisions.
Own and coordinate regulator relationships, acting as the primary liaison with Regulators, planning and managing annual engagement schedules, supporting formal meetings, responding to regulatory requests, and maintaining AIA’s regulatory reputation.
Ensure accurate, timely regulatory reporting and submissions, working closely with Finance, Risk, Compliance and other teams to meet lodgement obligations, maintain registers, manage attestations, and address any delays or rework transparently.
Deliver clear regulatory insight and risk oversight, building dashboards and KRIs, providing executive and Board reporting on regulatory themes and emerging risks, and proactively identifying early indicators of regulatory concern.
Strengthen governance, risk management and continuity, leading Line 1 regulatory risk controls, supporting audits and reviews, escalating significant issues appropriately, and providing Company Secretariat relief to ensure seamless governance support
Successful applications will demonstrate:
Tertiary qualification in law, economics, commerce, or finance, with strong capability in regulatory affairs, compliance, or legal roles within financial services or life insurance.
Deep understanding of APRA Prudential Standards, ASIC requirements, and broader regulatory and governance frameworks, with proven ability to engage regulators and manage complex submissions.
Strong commercial judgement and problem solving ability, delivering practical, value adding advice that supports business initiatives within risk appetite and regulatory constraints.
Highly effective communicator and senior stakeholder influencer, able to provide clear, independent, and strategically focused advice to executives across the organisation.
Proven ability to manage multiple regulatory initiatives and deadlines simultaneously, supported by strong organisational skills, sound judgement, and digital fluency in compliance and reporting systems.
