BR+A is seeking a Field Engineer/Construction Administrator to join our talented team. This role exercises oversight during the construction phase of building systems engineering projects and will be based in our Charlotte or Raleigh, NC office. The ideal candidate will possess 7 – 10 years of related experience and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks, be highly organized, have excellent writing skills, proficient computer skills, and a professional and team-oriented demeanor.
Responsibilities will include
- Implementing approved system concepts in the construction phase
- Managing the construction-related aspects of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering; developing and maintaining positive client relationships
- Communicating with BR+A Project Manager/Project Engineer regarding potential problems and engineering assistance from the design team that you may need
- Coordinating with other construction trade disciplines and the architect
- Attending meetings as required, working to submit the required documentation per project deadlines and milestones
- Performing field work and verification of existing conditions and newly installed mechanical and electrical systems
- Reviewing, processing, and returning electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection submittals and RFIs. The candidate is not expected to be an expert in all these aspects of construction, but familiarity with them is desirable
- Working with clients to review punch lists and help to resolve design and installation issues
Required Skills
- Functional working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems, as well as systems design & construction processes
- The ability to work directly with Architects/Owners/Construction Manager representatives in a hands-on training role for the functional understanding of systems
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
- P.E. License is a plus
- A strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and/or DDC building automation systems is a plus
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good understanding of MEP Engineering concepts, design and spatial requirements.
- Able to think three-dimensionally
- Able to physically access and navigate job sites of various sizes to conduct field investigations. Physically capable of climbing ladders to view overhead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment
- Detail oriented and deadline-driven
- Able to manage time to meet deadlines
- Prior experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC system integration, Building Management Systems, and Air/Water Testing and Balancing disciplines
- HVAC engineering experience preferred
- Prior experience with construction management software, such as Procore and Newforma
