Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community

LOCATION OF POSITION

MSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705

Main Purpose of Job

Provide transportation for students in the Work to Learn program.

POSITION DUTIES

The Work to Learn (WTL)

Driver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for high

school students participating in the WTL program. This role involves

transporting students to and from their work sites, ensuring timely arrival and

departure, and fostering a supportive environment that encourages students'

growth and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Safely transport students to and from designated work

sites according to the established schedule.

Ensure compliance with

all traffic laws and safety regulations while driving.

Maintain a clean and

well-functioning vehicle, conducting regular inspections and reporting any

issues to management.

Assist students with

entering and exiting the vehicle, providing necessary support as needed.

Foster a positive and

respectful atmosphere in the vehicle, promoting appropriate behavior and

communication among students.

Collaborate with WTL

staff to coordinate transportation logistics and address any scheduling changes

or student needs.

Maintain accurate

records of transportation routes, student attendance, and any incidents that

occur during transport.

Communicate effectively with students, staff, and

parents regarding transportation schedules and any changes or concerns.

Work Environment

Primarily operates in a vehicle while

transporting students.

May involve exposure to varying weather

conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Valid driver’s license and

clean driving record.

Experience working with

youth, preferably in an educational or support setting.

Strong interpersonal skills

and the ability to engage with students in a positive manner.

Knowledge of safe driving

practices.

Fluency in American Sign Language.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to assist students

with mobility challenges as needed.

Ability to sit for extended

periods while driving.

Ability to work flexible

hours to accommodate student work schedules.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this

position are assigned duties which require the operation of a motor

vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor

vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal

background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law

Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
