Position Summary:

The FAU Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine seeks a highly skilled and motivated Psychiatry Residency Program Director (PD) to join our dynamic team. The PD for the Psychiatry Residency Program will provide visionary leadership, strategic direction, and administrative oversight for an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited training program in Psychiatry. The PD is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all ACGME requirements, advancing excellence in graduate medical education, and fostering a learning environment that supports resident growth, scholarly activity, and professional development. This role includes significant collaboration with departmental leadership, medical school administration, affiliated clinical sites, faculty, residents, and institutional Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership.

This position reports to the department chair with a dotted line to the Designated Institutional Official for GME. 

Responsibilities

1. Program Leadership & Administration

  • Oversee all operations of the psychiatry residency program in accordance with ACGME Institutional, Common, and Specialty Requirements.
  • Develop and implement program policies, curricula, evaluation systems, and resident schedules.
  • Lead program accreditation activities, including ACGME Self‑Study, Annual Program Evaluation (APE), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts.
  • In collaboration with the chair, manage program budget and resource allocation to support educational excellence.

2. Curriculum Development & Educational Oversight

  • Design, implement, and continuously refine a competency‑based curriculum that meets all ACGME requirements.
  • Ensure high‑quality clinical, didactic, and simulation‑based education across all training sites.
  • Promote innovative teaching methods and evidence‑based psychiatric practice.

3. Resident Recruitment, Evaluation, and Mentorship

  • Direct the resident recruitment and selection process through ERAS/NRMP.
  • Oversee resident evaluation, Milestones reporting, and semi‑annual performance reviews.
  • Provide individualized mentorship, career guidance, and support for residents.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive learning environment that adheres to ACGME duty‑hour and well‑being standards.

4. Faculty Development & Engagement (in support of the department chair)

  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate program faculty.
  • Ensure faculty receive ongoing development in teaching, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism and collaboration.

5. Scholarly Activity & Academic Contribution

  • Foster resident and faculty involvement in research, quality improvement, and scholarly dissemination.
  • Participate in academic productivity, including publications, presentations, or educational innovation.

6. Clinical Excellence

  • Maintain an active clinical practice in psychiatry.
  • Serve as a role model for high‑quality, compassionate, patient‑centered care.

Minimum Qualifications:

• M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of associate professor or higher.
• Florida medical license or eligibility for licensure, and active or eligible certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
• Minimum of three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience.
• The ability to effectively communicate with students, residents, fellows and employees from various backgrounds is required.


Preferred
• Prior experience as a program director, associate program director, clerkship director, or other GME leadership role.
• Experience with ACGME accreditation, curriculum design, and competency based evaluation.
• Record of scholarly activity and participation in academic psychiatry organizations.

Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.
