Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for Principal or Sr. Principal Data Displays and Controls (DDC) Architect Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Melbourne, FL and will be based within our office spaces to support the program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule means you will get every other Friday off. This position has no Hybrid or Remote work available. Â
The selected individual will perform as a leader within an interdisciplinary team to develop novel and innovative solutions to advanced technical problems. The successful DDC Architect will contribute to the overall development of Weapons Integration, including developing functional architectures, analyzing performance, developing and managing requirements and interfaces, and verifying/validating all allocated requirements. You will design, develop, build, DDC solutions in conjunction with key suppliers.Â
Roles and Responsibilities:
Support development and integration of piloted aircraft display and processing components Â
Lead and/or support development and integration throughout the product lifecycle of design, development, integration and test, flight test requirements verification, and sustainment.Â
Requirements development, analysis, maturation and implementation, translating customer requirements into hardware and software specificationsÂ
Perform MBSE and capturing requirements, interfaces, behaviors, structures and parametricÂ
Perform flight and mission engineering activities to ensure continuity between desired operational capabilities and delivered system performance, through the Systems Engineering “V”. Â
Ensure performance capabilities of employed architectures and solutions are traded against cost and system requirements and assess operational effectiveness of existing and emerging systems and capabilities in representative operational environments.Â
Performing functional and performance analysesÂ
Run detailed trade studiesÂ
Provide design assessments and perform verification checksÂ
Technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers including development of supplier statement of work and requirements, review and analyze supplier design data, hardware/software acquisition, test and deliveryt requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution.Â
Develop technical system integration and verification plans and track their progressÂ
Solicit input from various stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to various levels of leadership within the organization.Â
Performing risk analysis and developing mitigation plans and tracking to closureÂ
Guide all activities in the System Engineering “V”, with MBSE Digital Engineering and Agile design methodology. Â
Lead and/or support technical discussions with the customer and having daily interaction with management, external personnel, customers, and various sub teamsÂ
**This position may be filled by either a Principal Data Displays and Controls (DDC) Architect Engineer OR a Sr. Principal Data Displays and Controls (DDC) Architect Engineer level based on the qualifications listed. **
Basic Qualifications:
Principal: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 1 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.
Sr. Principal: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 6 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 4 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering
Experience with design, development, and integration of flight deck equipmentÂ
Experience in COTS / MIL-COTS hardware functional design and performance analysisÂ
Experience with trade studies, documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with regard to supplier current and future products offeringsÂ
Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation and interface control documentation Â
Demonstrated problem-solving ability and data analysis experienceÂ
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in model-based systems engineering using Cameo or similar SysML toolsÂ
Experience with Military Navigation and Navigation AidsÂ
Experience with integrating Military Navigation instrumentation on aircraft and interfacing with mission software Â
Integration and/or Design experience with one or more of the following avionics systems as applied to military aircraft:Â Flight Management Systems (FMS), Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), Control Display Units (CDUs), Terrain Avoidance and Warning, Systems (TAWS), Crew Alerting System (CAS), Moving Maps, Embedded GPS/INS (EGI) Navigation SystemsÂ
Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) experienceÂ
Performance Based Navigation (PBN) experience and attaining PBN certificationÂ
Experience designing RTCA DO-178 software standard Â
Experience designing RTCA DO-254 hardware standard Â
Experience designing to RTCA DO-200 standard Â
Experience designing RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards Â
Experience with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429 and Ethernet communication protocolsÂ
Experience leading/guiding teams through product definition and implementationÂ
Experience communicating with and presenting to senior leadershipÂ
Experience collaborating on large interdisciplinary teamsÂ
Experience in supplier/subcontract managementÂ
Experience in the development of real-time embedded software Â
Familiarity with Atlassian collaboration tool set (Jira and Confluence)Â

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
