Job description

Come join our team in Bedfordshire as a Senior Electronics Engineer, where you’ll play a key role in delivering high‑reliability, safety‑critical electronic systems for one of ALTEN’s major defence and aerospace programmes. You’ll be part of a specialist engineering team working on complex, cutting‑edge technology with real‑world impact.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys technical ownership, detailed design work, and contributing to mission‑critical programmes in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Location: 3x onsite 
  • On Site: Bedford 
  • Clearance: Not required
  • Experience Level: Mid - Senior 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead electronic hardware development across the full lifecycle, from requirements capture through to production release
  • Carry out detailed design work for digital, mixed‑signal, application processor, FPGA‑based, and high‑reliability systems
  • Review and approve schematics, PCB layouts, component selections, and supporting documentation
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers
  • Maintain compliance with DO‑254 processes and ensure robust design assurance and verification traceability
  • Support configuration control, verification, and validation activities
  • Work collaboratively with Systems, Software, Mechanical, Test, and Programme Management teams
  • Contribute to planning, bid activity, cost estimation, and project reporting
  • Manage priorities, risks, and dependencies across multiple concurrent projects

Required Skills:

  • Strong project and programme management experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in electronics hardware design (digital and mixed‑signal)
  • Proven experience designing to DO‑254 standards
  • Minimum 1 year of wiring and PCB rework experience
  • Significant expertise in detailed electronics hardware design
  • Strong understanding of electronics manufacturing processes
  • Excellent attention to detail and a process‑driven approach
  • Ability to interpret legislation and implement compliant processes
  • Strong organisational, communication, and time‑management skills
  • Adaptable, proactive, and comfortable working across multiple projects

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with subcontractors
  • VHDL or Verilog experience
  • Embedded C or Python experience
