General Summary

This position is responsible for managing preconstruction coordinators within the group and ensure support for those within the business units.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Manage identifying needs, developing resources and implementing preconstruction processes tailored to ensure the needs of the procurement at the project level to ensure proper execution.  
  • Support throughout the project life cycle (pursuit, preconstruction, and construction) and predominately, but not exclusively, on alternative procurement projects such as Design-Build (DB), Construction Manager/General Construction (CMGC), Construction Management At-Risk (CMAR), General Contractor/Construction Manager (GCCM) and Progressive Design-Build (PDB) to ensure the process flow is going smoothly.
  • Manage a team of direct and indirect reports on projects and in regional businesses, to develop and implement best practices, systems, and procedures on projects throughout the Company that increase profitability and reduce risk.
  • Advise the project team of the project’s prime contract, supporting documents, schedules, and budget as well as the agreement with the designer (including the design schedule and design budget) to ensure compliance and preparation of efficient execution throughout all phases of the project.
  • Evaluate the Company’s needs for preconstruction resources, tools and processes and then develop and maintain those resources to increase capture rates and profitability on alternative procurement projects.
  • Provide guidance and support to Project Executives and Preconstruction Coordinators with regards to alternative procurement strategy and proposal development to develop profitable back log for the Company.
  • Monitor usage, promote through training, and provide recommendations for existing and emerging preconstruction software/programs to increase the Company’s technological abilities at project sites.
  • Represent the Company at regional and national conferences, meetings, and associations for best practices, ensuring the Company is viewed as a leader in alternative procurement project delivery.
  • Assign and allocate resources to projects and project pursuits throughout the company for projects that are matched to the Company’s need and strategic objectives.
  • Manage budgets for preconstruction support that are in alignment with Company’s strategic plan.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with engineering partners, owners, and industry partners ensuring the Company is viewed as a leader in alternative procurement project delivery.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Civil Engineering or Engineering Management preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineering preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred

Work Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the heavy civil construction or design management
  • Management or supervisory experience required
  • Previous experience on multiple alternative procurement projects (DB, CMGC/CMAR, PDB)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong managements skills
  • Strong quantity take-off skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of construction operations
  • Working knowledge of modeling software (such as Autodesk or Bentley software products)
  • Working knowledge of preconstruction software/programs (such as Agtek, Procore, Plangrid, Power BI and SharePoint)
  • Working knowledge of Cost and CPM Scheduling Systems
  • Estimating skills sufficient to allow comparison pricing of design alternatives at a conceptual stage

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate orally. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Subject to outside working conditions and at times will be working around large construction equipment, must be safety conscience.

Benefits may vary for positions located outside of the continental United States.

Base Salary Range: 

$168,947.00 - $253,420.00

Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
