What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: The Machinery Engineering position will work collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization, and with multi-discipline teams, to improve the facility’s rotating equipment reliability. This includes supporting daily operation, maintenance, turnarounds, and projects for rotating equipment and their associated systems
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Supports all phases of machinery engineering from concept development, scoping, selection, manufacturing, technical audit, final acceptance, start-up, troubleshooting, and failure analysis
Prepare, review, and approve machinery or component purchase specifications which may include preparation of engineering, operating, maintenance or reliability standards, policies and instructions
Provide technical review and approval of vendor calculations/drawings and technical reports
Participate in resolution of all operational and reliability issues as may occur during start-up and during normal plant operation
Answer technical inquiries, make technical recommendations, improve design tools, and develop design procedures
Spearhead resolution of quality issues during equipment manufacturing, witness and approve factory acceptance test results on behalf of the company to ensure compliance with company standards
Ensures the work practices, applications, data, and tools are effective and efficient to meet company and industry requirements. These include condition monitoring, machinery performance monitoring, routine and turnaround machinery work scope development, and Engineering Work Order development
Lead machinery initiatives and studies to improve plant safety and reliability
Support inputs to economic analysis for proposed upgrades or improvements to rotating equipment assets
Participate in troubleshooting complex machinery problems, develop alternatives, and work with condition monitoring team members and others to propose and implement solutions for long-term reliability
Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams (Operations, Technical, Routine Maintenance, Turnaround, Projects, Construction Services Group, etc.) to improve asset reliability
Ensures lessons learned are shared and incorporated into the applicable systems for sustainability
Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of design standards and codes.
Knowledge, application and specification of piping materials.
Development of piping material and material procurement specifications.
Knowledge of good design practices for sizing all piping systems.
Sizing of compressible fluid piping systems.
Flexibility and stress analysis of moderately complex piping systems.
Specify criteria for and select piping specialty items.
Design of moderately complex process and utility piping systems.
Knowledge of manual valve sizing, use and application.
Knowledge of application of piping supports and restraints.
Identification of need, application and specification of safety valves and devices to maintain the mechanical integrity of piping systems.
Identification of need, application and specification of steam traps and liquid drainers.
Estimating piping related construction quantities from conceptual documents.
Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of design efforts.
Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
Knowledge of the discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent presentation skills.
Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.
