Join Our Team as a 1st Class Structural Welder!
About Us: Colonna's Shipyard is a renowned leader in the ship repair industry, dedicated to providing high-quality service and a safe working environment. We are currently looking for a talented and experienced 1st Class Structural Welder to contribute to our 2nd Shift operations.
Job Overview
- Work hours: 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM.
- Utilize electric arc-welding equipment to assemble and weld metal components according to specifications.
- Prepare surfaces for welding by removing any contaminants such as rust or grease.
- Perform welding in various positions: flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead.
- Operate both manual and semi-automatic welding machines, using processes like TIG, MIG, and stick welding.
- Apply filler rods as needed and conduct cleaning processes to ensure optimal welding conditions.
- Set up welding equipment and select appropriate electrodes based on materials being joined.
- Assist with grinding and preparation for non-destructive testing (NDT) processes.
- Mark or tag materials with job numbers and identification marks.
- Wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats and safety goggles.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of welding experience.
- Demonstrated ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds.
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques, tools, and safety precautions.
- Ability to effectively work within a team and follow detailed instructions.
- Competency in reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches.
- Able to work in confined spaces and safely navigate around ships.
- Reliable and punctual with good attendance history.
Desired Skills
- Technical training is a plus.
- DBIDS eligibility preferred.
Security Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Travel Requirements
- Minimal travel (10% or less).
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 lbs or more, based on job specifications.
- Physical ability to work in various environments, including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
- Frequent exposure to heat, humidity, noise, and potentially hazardous conditions.
- Regular use of safety equipment and protective gear.
