The Job:  

Stanley Black & Decker is seeking an experienced Electro-mechanical Engineer to join our power tools engineering team as a hybrid employee. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and developing integrated electro-mechanical systems for motor-driven and power conversion applications. Advanced proficiency in 3D modeling, mechanical design, and the integration of electronic and mechanical components is essential. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, firmware, manufacturing, and compliance to deliver innovative, reliable, and robust solutions for our next-generation power tools. Experienced candidates will be expected to apply industry best practices, support product development from concept through mass production, and ensure all designs meet stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards.  You’ll get to:  

  • Design and develop innovative, reliable, and safe electro-mechanical systems and motor controls using 3D modeling and detailed drawings, managing BOMs and documentation in PLM systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Product Management, Industrial Design, Reliability, Compliance, Sourcing, Manufacturing) to define product requirements, "Critical to Quality" attributes, and ensure robust product development.
  • Release comprehensive product specifications, RFQ packets, and costed BOMs; partner with suppliers and contract manufacturers to achieve optimal cost, quality, and timely delivery.
  • Lead the development and production of new electro-mechanical modules for power electronics and power tool applications supporting both high-mix and low-volume production.
  • Conduct tolerance stack-ups, DFMEA, PFMEA, process control plans, and release engineering changes to support robust product development.
  • Perform engineering analyses (structural, thermal, airflow, FEA), design validation, and advanced testing to optimize product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement for manufacturing, assembly, and product performance issues.  Support manufacturing and DFM initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards. Support regulatory documentation and reporting.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting schedule, cost, and quality objectives, and provide regular status updates to management.
  • Conduct tolerance stack-ups, DFMEA, PFMEA, process control plans, and release engineering changes to support robust product development.

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required
  • 5+ years of experience in product development of high-volume electronic modules and assemblies.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software (CATIA preferred); ability to generate detailed 2D drawings.
  • Familiarity with printed circuit board design and integration.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes for electronic and other products.
  • Demonstrated ability to design plastic and metallic components, working with a variety of materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with supplier development and working with contract manufacturers for key components.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet schedule and cost commitments.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement; understanding of quality, performance, schedule, and cost objectives in a cross-functional environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

The base pay range for this position in Maryland is $90,000-$144,900 USD per year. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
