Discover Impactful Work:
The Medical Associate works under the direction of the Paramedic following the guidelines provided by the chief physician/investigator to ensure subject safety, health and well-being. This role assists with monitoring and treating the subject population, acting as an assistant to the Paramedic in observing, documenting, and treating AEs, or directly deferring to the physician/investigator as needed. The Medical Associate provides support to the Paramedic team to treat and care for subjects throughout all stages of the clinical trial.
How you will make an impact:
Act as subject safety contact for all study subjects in the Clinic.
Provide basic medical care (within scope of practice), both emergent and non-emergent, to all study subjects, as appropriate.
Monitor and record Adverse Events (AEs). Review all active AEs prior to dose and determine if it is safe for subject to proceed with study procedures and/or dosing in consultation with Paramedic or physician/investigator.
Perform technical procedures including blood collection, vital signs, and ECGs.
Assess out of range values for symptomology and may medically intervene should study subject's safety be in question.
Perform forms of basic dosing including oral, inhalation and nasal.
How you will get there:
Education:
High / Secondary school diploma or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
Technical positions may require a certificate
Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job
Certified or licensed EMT/LVN or Medical Assistant and American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required in the state and/or municipality where employee is working
In some cases, an equivalency consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Skilled in scope of practice including Basic Life Support
Solid interpersonal skills and attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, management and physicians in a professional and credible manner
Ability to effectively manage multiple complex tasks
Ability to effectively manage potential emergency medical situations
Physical Requirements:
Occasionally stationary for 1 - 2 hours per day
Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists
Frequent mobility required
Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck
Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs
Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf
Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
May interact with others, relating and gathering sensitive information. Interaction includes diverse groups
Works with guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions from management. May require periods of intense concentration
Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task

Working Conditions and Environment:
Work is performed in an office or clinical environment with exposure to electrical office equipment
Frequently works varying shifts
Works weekends and/or holidays
Frequently works at a fast pace under varying time constraints
Frequently requires working on multiple priorities simultaneously
Frequent exposure to bio-hazardous material, infectious diseases and/or illnesses
Personal protective equipment may be required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves
Required Availability (Lab "All Shifts"):
This position is a per diem role, requiring flexibility to work across all shift types: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
Training Requirement: All new employees must complete a mandatory training period during the 1st shift for the first month of employment.
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as required by the department schedule.
Ability to respond to on-call requests and cover shifts on short notice is essential.
Willingness to rotate shifts and adapt to changing schedules as needed.
