Position: Associate Art Director, Beauty
Department: Creative for Beauty
Work Location: Boston, MA, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)
Hybrid Schedule: At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in-office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. What you will be doing:
We are looking for an Associate Art Director who brings bold, elevated design and high impact visual storytelling to a core beauty brand. You combine impeccable taste, strong concept thinking, and proven photo art direction with the ability to build systems that scale across the full customer journey. From originating campaign territories to directing shoots and guiding design execution, you set the visual tone for digital, social, eComm, and retail touch points, while staying ahead of trends in beauty, technology, and consumer engagement.
You’ll be a hands-on leader who sweats the details, inspires the team, and leverages innovative approaches to create brand content that stops thumbs, turns heads, and moves product.
This position will report to the Creative Director for Beauty.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the visual expression of the brand across digital, social, print, retail, and packaging
Translate marketing goals into elevated, on brand creative concepts and omnichannel toolkits
Develop campaign key visuals, style guides, and templates that scale across placements and aspect ratios
Direct photo and video shoots, including casting, styling, set direction, and shot lists
Review and approve creative to ensure brand consistency, clarity, and quality
Design Oversight
Provide hands on art direction across campaigns, photoshoots, and video or motion content
Guide internal designers and external partners from concept through design and production
Ensure design systems, typography, color, layout, and imagery reflect an elevated brand aesthetic
Partner with Motion Art Director on type in motion, supers, overlays, and end cards
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Brand Marketing Managers to align on messaging, timing, and channel priorities
Collaborate with eComm, Retail, and Social teams to create tailored assets per platform
Interface with product development and production teams as needed
Execution & Workflow:
Manage multiple workstreams and timelines with a balance of speed and craft
Contribute to calendars, reviews, and post mortems with clear, strategic input
Maintain organized files, version control, and routing for approvals
Ensure best in class creative that supports growth across DTC and retail channels
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
A strong portfolio showcasing beauty or lifestyle work across digital, social, print, and campaign development
Proven ability to lead photo/video shoots, oversee design systems, and maintain brand cohesion
Elevated taste level with a deep understanding of layout, color, typography, and brand aesthetics
Comfortable navigating a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
Curiosity and passion for innovation in design and technology, with an eye on trends shaping beauty and digital engagement
Familiarity with social-first creative strategies, motion graphics, and interactive content formats
Strong concept thinking and large scale omnichannel planning skills
A passion for perfect pixels
Knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design and Management
6+ years of experience in creative roles, with at least 2–3 years in beauty or CPG
Experience mentoring designers or working in a brand pod structure
Figma mastery and WCAG compliance experience
Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with emerging technologies
Comfort using Asana
In Massachusetts, the standard base pay range for this role is $100,000 - $125,765 annually. This base pay range is specific to Massachusetts and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
