Job description

THE ROLE THAT DOESN'T EXIST YET

The Hero is a new profession in healthcare: a dedicated senior care expert for your family. They focus on the "last mile" of healthcare, the 99% of care that happens outside the four walls.

Our Heroes are extraordinary: part social worker, part nurse, part family member. They do the work that actually matters.

  • Not just getting a kidney transplant, but getting Barbara to her follow-up appointment to keep her out of the hospital again.
  • Not just getting the home aide in place, but ensuring they're taking care of Beverly the right way.
  • Not just bringing John home from the hospital post-stroke, but devising a long-term plan so he can age at home.

But extraordinary doesn't scale by accident.

OUR BRAND PROMISE

We are in the business of trust.

Hera's brand promise is simple: care that would only be great enough for our own parents. This promise is our moat.

It's what physicians refer to, families buy, what Heroes deliver, and what the product must unlock and enforce at every touchpoint.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We need someone to own what it takes to make Heroes excellent and to make excellence repeatable across hundreds, then thousands, of Heroes.

This is the single-threaded owner of Hero performance: quality and efficiency. This person wakes up every day asking: How do we deliver 6-star care, and how do we scale 6-star care?

  • Quality at the atomic level. You'll define what great looks like for every Hero interaction. You'll build the systems that measure it, the coaching infrastructure that improves it, and the escalation paths that protect it. When a Hero doesn't know what to do, your systems should.
  • Efficiency without compromise. Every minute a Hero spends on low-value work is a minute not spent with a patient. You'll obsess over workflows, eliminate friction, and increase caseload capacity - without sacrificing the human touch that makes Hera work.
  • Product that feels like the most competent teammate. You'll work side-by-side with engineering to build products that augment Heroes and turn stay-at-home moms into Heroes. You will productize the tribal knowledge and operational execution so Heroes can focus on what they do best - building human connections. You'll know when to automate, when to assist, and when to stay out of the way. You'll spec what our product should do next because you've watched Heroes struggle.
  • Own the whole funnel. As we scale, you'll own Hero hiring from sourcing to screening to onboarding. You'll expand who can become a Hero by building the systems that transfer expertise.

WHAT MAKES THIS HARD

You're holding the quality bar today with imperfect tools, edge cases, and human variability while simultaneously building the systems that scale quality tomorrow. The tension between "fix it now" and "build it right" is constant. You'll need to prototype in scrappy ways and build for durability at the same time.

In order to scale to all of America, we need to unbundle expertise from the human and broaden the aperture of who can become a Hero. Anyone that can foster human connection should be able to become a Hero with Hera. In that world, our challenge becomes how we uphold quality across every human touchpoint with our customers.

JOIN US TO DO HARD THINGS

  • Our entire team believes truth is in the field. This means we are side by side with our Heroes every day, learning what it takes to do the job and do it well.
  • We are high autonomy and trust. There is no space for micromanagement; if you see a problem or think of a solution, you are empowered to run at it wholeheartedly and know that the team has your back.
  • We are creative in our bones. For the first time in many years, we are seeing the genesis of a new profession of profound scale and importance; it's on us to define what it can and should look like.

When you solve a hard problem, you will know that you've empowered some of the most selfless members of our society to tangibly impact the lives of some of those most in need. You will also be rewarded with harder problems. Our promise is we will stretch your limits, and trust you to own unreasonably substantial outcomes.

YOU MIGHT BE THIS PERSON IF

  • Ex-founder, or 4-6+ years in bizops, ops at a fast growing startup
  • Owned a P&L accountable for the inputs (cost, capacity, efficiency) and outputs (quality, revenue, margin) of a business unit, region, or workforce segment
  • Obsessed with shipping intuitive products that help underserved users fight life-changing battles
  • Managed or heavily influenced a frontline workforce doesn't need to be direct management, but has driven behavior change at scale (50+ people)

ABOUT THE CURRENT TEAM

You'll be building Hera alongside co-founders Jenny, Myles & Connie as well as founding team members Isabella https://www.linkedin.com/in/isabella-petas-6b0aba79/ and Sasi https://www.linkedin.com/in/sasikota/. Jenny https://www.linkedin.com/in/jennydlee/, Connie https://www.linkedin.com/in/jingyi-connie-kang/, and Isabella https://www.linkedin.com/in/isabella-petas-6b0aba79/ were in the trenches together building Headway (now the largest mental health platform in America) while Myles https://www.linkedin.com/in/mylesnovick/, Sasi & Connie all came from Palantir, all resonating with a personal tie to this mission.

We closed a sizable seed round led by Accel and have since gotten to seven-figure GMV with organic distribution through channel partners: geriatricians and social workers from Weill Cornell, NYU Langone, and Mt. Sinai. The customer feedback is the most positive our team has seen in our careers.

We are in person in NYC.
