Job Summary

The Principal Software Engineer is a pivotal leader in the organization, responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)across full stack, front-end and backend. This role involves making strategic decisions to enhance system scalability, security, and performance, while championing the highest standards in coding, testing protocols, and automation strategies. The Senior Principal will drive the design, provide inputs on architecture and delivery of transformative applications that align with user requirements and business objectives along with upholding enterprise standards. Their expertise will be instrumental in optimizing SDLC processes and pioneering new technologies. This role demands a profound technical mastery and the ability to mentor and inspire engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.


 

Essential Job Functions

  • Spearhead conceptualization and implementation of cutting-edge financial technology solutions. Transform business requirements into innovative applications tailored to user requirements and guide their seamless execution. Make strategic decisions to enhance system scalability, security, and performance. - (20%)

  • Provide visionary leadership in designing scalable, secure, and robust software development processes. Ensure alignment with long-term strategic goals and oversee the entire software development lifecycle. Offer unparalleled guidance and technical direction, fostering innovation and excellence within the team. - (20%)

  • Define and champion the highest standards in coding, testing protocols, and automation strategies. Diagnose and eliminate defects, performance bottlenecks, and inefficiencies with a strategic approach and by leveraging AI/ML tools. Drive the evolution of SDLC processes to align with enterprise objectives, emphasizing exceptional quality, scalability, and expedited time-to-market. - (15%)

  • Initiate and lead projects utilizing cutting-edge technologies to significantly improve system performance. Conduct comprehensive code reviews, enforce best practices, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions that set industry benchmarks. Provide technical on-call support and respond to incident inquiries as needed. - (15%)

  • Formulate and execute strategies for advanced UI/UX enhancements by partnering with cross-functional leaders . Leverage user feedback to drive continuous improvement and ensure alignment with evolving business needs. - (10%)

  • Act as a senior technical advisor, cultivate and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders to align strategic priorities. Guide and develop best practices in software engineering and agile development, while leading enterprise-wide initiatives aligned to the strategic priorities of the organization. - (10%)

  • Exhibit deep expertise in multiple programming languages and lead the development of multiple mission-critical applications. Serve as a distinguished subject matter expert in SDLC across full stack, back end and front end. Lead the adoption of emerging technologies positioning the organization at the forefront of technological innovation. - (10%)


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field of study; or equivalent experience.

  • 15+ years of work experience in related field (Software Development Life Cycle across Full Stack, Frontend and Backend Development and UI / UX engineering).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field of study; or equivalent experience.

  • 18+ Years of experience in related field.

Work Environment

  • Normal office environment. (Remote or Hybrid), 3 to 4 days per month are required in office if within 60 miles of a posted Bread Financial location.

Salary Range (unless otherwise noted below):

$183,800.00 - $393,800.00

Full Salary Range for position:

California: $211,300.00 - $492,200.00

Colorado: $183,800.00 - $413,500.00

New York: $202,100.00 - $492,200.00

Washington: $192,900.00 - $452,800.00

Maryland: $192,900.00 - $433,100.00

Washington DC: $211,300.00 - $452,800.00

Illinois: $183,800.00 - $433,100.00

New Jersey: $211,300.00 - $452,800.00

Vermont: $183,800.00 - $393,800.00

Ohio: $183,800.00 - $393,800.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26.  New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period).  Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period.   Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.

Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
