About the opportunity

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for the Sustainability function within University Infrastructure (UI), providing thought leadership, advice, management , and oversight of the UI’s sustainability aspirations and objectives, and ensuring strong alignment with broader institutional targets, initiatives and outcomes.

The Sustainability Manager will lead, co-develop and embed UI’s sustainability goals into our infrastructure, through specific project interventions and the development of design standards, guidelines and technical requirements, to achieve outcomes such as sustainability ratings, Net Zero pathway solutions, circular economy practices, and energy performance. The position will manage the governance for UI sustainability procedures, controls, and reporting. The position is also responsible to manage and implement UI’s response to the University’s Sustainability strategy and the forthcoming Climate and Nature Transition Plan, under the leadership of the Central Sustainability Team.

As an integral member of the Design, Engineering, Planning and Sustainability (DEPS) team within University Infrastructure UI, the Sustainability Manager will also contribute to the establishment and delivery of strategic objectives within UI.

About University Infrastructure 

University Infrastructure (UI) is a client focused Property and Infrastructure planning and delivery unit, supporting University and faculty strategies through planning and design, property development, infrastructure delivery, space management and sustainability. 

 

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work with internal and external stakeholders to support effective implementation of the University’s sustainability ambition through the forthcoming Climate and Nature Transition Plan  

  • lead and coordinate and other ratingse

  • develop or embed into existing regional and rural strategies, innovative and research-led sustainability and climate resilience aspirations and initiatives to future proof these campuses

  • prepare reports, briefings and other communications to demonstrate

About you

  • demonstrated experience providing thought leadership, management and governance of Sustainability initiatives within a large complex organisation

  • strong leadership skills and the ability to positively influence and align multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, outcomes-focused sustainability results

  • experience translating strategy into implementation with a technically-informed approach to sustainability including metering, monitoring, data and performance management

  • proven management experience at a senior level with executive presence, together with ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity and influence across organisational boundaries

  • have an outcomes driven, passionate hands-on attitude

  • respected and credible communication skills in complex, political and fast-moving environments.
