Job Description:
This position involves skilled structural and craft work focused on the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and overseeing the activities of a team of workers, as well as performing a wide range of mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance tasks. Areas of work encompass heating, water, and sewerage systems, along with the upkeep of laundry, kitchen, and farm equipment. Work is carried out under general supervision
Representative Tasks:
Plans, assigns, and oversees skilled and semi-skilled tradesmen engaged in the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment in order to ensure work is accomplished in a proper, safe, and timely manner.
Schedules, oversees, and participates in the installation and maintenance of heating, water, and sewerage systems in order to maximize system operations and availability.
Schedules, oversees, and participates in the installation and maintenance of institutional laundry and kitchen equipment, electrical equipment, and wiring in order to ensure proper and timely installation.
Keeps records of work performed, time spent, materials used, estimates of cost, and related data in order to document activities and provide information.
Implements and complies with human resource laws, policies, procedures and practices such as: AA/EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, human resource components of security protocols of agency information security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety.
Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices of plumbing, welding, electrical, and general maintenance and repair work.
Knowledge of the operation of high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge of state and federal trade codes, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of these trades.
Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled tradesmen. Ability to install, maintain, and repair heating, water, and sewage systems.
Ability to estimate time and material needs.
Ability to install, maintain, and repair a variety of commercial laundry, kitchen and farm equipment.
Ability to keep simple records and order materials.
Ability to use applicable computer programs.
Preference will be given to those with a current, valid Master Plumber's License, Master Oil Technician's License, and a Tank Installer's Certification.
Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years' experience as a journeyman in plumbing, welding, maintenance mechanic, and/or an allied field.
