Job description

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Motor Vehicle Mechanic to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repair services on various vehicles and equipment, including Non-Tactical Vehicles (NTVE), Weight Handling Equipment (WHE), Material Handling Equipment (MHE), and Other Handling Equipment (OHE), as applicable.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose mechanical issues using current technology and diagnostic procedures.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Perform all work on WHE in compliance with NAVFAC P-307 requirements.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of new technologies, vehicle systems, and troubleshooting procedures for WHE.
  • Ensure all journeyman mechanics are trained and equipped to perform maintenance and repair work for any new NTVE added throughout the contract's lifecycle.
  • Execute maintenance, repair, and operational duties for War Reserve Material (WRM) vehicles and equipment per Air Force requirements.
  • Provide emergency road service between 0700 and 2100 hours, seven days per week, as assigned.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities while adhering to quality and safety protocols.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment as necessary to perform diagnostics and ensure repair quality.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of journeyman-level experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair, specifically on NTVE, WHE, MHE, or OHE, as applicable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with current technology, troubleshooting techniques, and diagnostics related to vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Trained in maintenance and repair for all WHE equipment.
  • Ability to maintain, repair, and operate Air Force WRM vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
  • Valid country driver's license and passport.
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
  • Experience working in support of US Navy or Air Force equipment maintenance programs.
  • Strong knowledge of NAVFAC P-307 requirements and procedures.
  • Experience training other personnel on vehicle and equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, operationally demanding environment.
