Schedule: Day Shift.  40 hours weekly.  8:00am – 5:00pm

About the Position

The Athletic Trainer will primarily be functioning at the Athletic Training Clinic and Fitness Suite. Primary responsibilities will include Athletic Training Clinic duties. Secondary responsibilities would include school coverage on an as-needed basis. At the school, the Athletic Trainer’s responsibilities would include injury prevention strategies for athletic teams, initial assessment, and subsequent management of injuries to student-athletes, coordinate and supervise a student athletic trainer program, and communication/coordination with physicians, coaches, and other school and medical personnel.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Development and instruction of injury prevention programs.

  • Development of rehabilitation programs for Post Discharge patients.

  • Communication with coaches, athletes, guardians, athletic trainers, and other healthcare providers regarding goals and techniques.

  • Select and apply preventive taping, bracing, and other equipment as appropriate.

  • Provide devices, fit to patient, and instruct in proper application and use.

  • Recognition of injuries/conditions when they occur and appropriate medical referral.

  • Initial evaluation of injuries as well as immediate care.

  • Appropriate first aid when required, including CPR.

  • Development and instruction of reconditioning programs for injured athletes.

  • Manage healing wounds, to include inspection, treatment, and appropriate referral.

  • Apply and change sterile dressings as appropriate.

  • Fitting of patients with crutches and instruction on their safe use.

  • Assist clients with management of pain and swelling.

  • May include use of appropriate therapeutic modalities.

  • Cleaning of equipment used to render treatment to patients on school facilities.

  • Consult with coaches regarding appropriate topics, including selection and purchase of equipment, health maintenance, injury prevention and maintenance, etc.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Community Benefit and Engagement or appropriate designee.

  • Counseling of athletes and guardians regarding conditions, test results, prognosis, etc.

  • Education of student athletic trainers as needed.

  • Other tasks as assigned by Sports Medicine and Reid Fitness Manager.

Education & Experience

  • Education Required: Graduate of an accredited program in Athletic Training.

  • Education Preferred: Master’s Degree in Athletic Training.

  • Experience Required: The Athletic Trainer must demonstrate the knowledge and skills appropriate to serve patients of all ages and those with special needs, developmental challenges, and/or communication impairments. Must have completed supervised clinical experiences at sporting events as required for certification. Must maintain active CPR certification.

  • Experience Preferred: Experience with various forms of modalities and rehabilitation techniques. Ex: Cupping, IASTM, Ultrasound, ESTIM, etc.

Licensure & Certification

  • Licensure: Must be Licensed by the State of Indiana. Must be Licensed by the State of Ohio (if applicable).

  • Certifications: Must be Certified by Board of Certification (BOC). Must be BLS CPR certified.
