Product Designer

Tolan is an embodied AI companion, a friendly, expressive alien you can talk to naturally, like a real friend. Tolans develop personalities, preferences, and memories over time, building a relationship that evolves with you.

We’re building Tolan with a small, experienced team that has worked together for years. Previously, we founded Even, which was acquired for $300M in 2022. Our investors include designers and founders behind products like Instagram, Notion, Vimeo, Retro, and Behance.

We work in person in downtown San Francisco and value high ownership, speed, and craft.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for an early-career Product Designer to help shape the future of Tolan.

You’ll work closely with product and engineering to design and ship new features across the core Tolan experience. This is a hands-on role where you’ll contribute across the entire design process, from early ideas to polished UI, while learning quickly in a fast-moving environment.

You’ll be designing at the frontier of AI, exploring new interaction patterns and helping define what it means to build relationships with software.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Contribute to end-to-end design of product features, from concept to launch
• Create flows, prototypes, and high-quality UI that bring ideas to life
• Collaborate closely with designers and engineers to ship quickly and iterate based on feedback
• Help evolve Tolan’s product experience and visual language over time
• Learn from real user behavior and continuously refine your work

YOU MIGHT BE A FIT IF YOU

• Have ~1–3 years of product design experience
• Have worked on real products, shipped features, or built things on your own
• Are comfortable moving quickly and iterating without perfect information
• Care about both product thinking and visual craft
• Are curious about AI and excited to explore new interaction paradigms
• Are excited to work in person in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
