The Opportunity:
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) is contracted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to lead projects related to research, prototype, development and demonstrations at the Florida Test Bed (FTB). The FTB is an agile research and integration facility designed to allow government, industry, and academia to showcase their ideas and technologies in a simulated National Airspace System (NAS) environment.
ERAU is now hiring a System Administrator to provide system installation and configuration, and problem determination and resolution, on all FTB infrastructure components and systems. This position provides support for system installation and configuration in support of FTB projects, and supports the use of technology by staff and Industry partners; performs support for Linux server-related and Windows/Mac computer-related issues; and provides support to the FTB Senior Systems Architect and supervisory staff.
Responsibilities Include:
Complies with FAA-mandated security requirements, provides FAA-mandated security documentation, performs FAA-required security scans and patching.
Assists in the operation and maintenance of all FTB infrastructure systems and oversees the system logging initiatives. Assists in the resolution of all FTB infrastructure system issues. Assists in the operations and maintenance of all computer and server hardware as well as the virtual farm with approx 400 VMs. Attends meetings and briefings related to FTB infrastructure system issues. As an FAA-funded resource, is available to the FAA for sustainment tasks that are not specifically contracted.
Operates the complex AV systems during formal FTB events. Supports the various FTB research, demonstration, and tour events by running the AV Control Room. Assists third-party organizations in the maintenance of the FTB audio/visual system.
Assists with the entire asset control process from shipping to decommissioning.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or related field OR
High school diploma or GED with 6 to 18 months of additional study/certifications in computer engineering related field.
Three to five years minimum of work related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education administrative and/or academic computing environment, or aviation industry computing preferred.
Experience managing a data center
Experience implementing hardware to support AI initiatives
CCNA or similar
Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate with various levels of staff to understand the problem.
Must maintain a positive, professional image.
Good organizational skills including documentation of procedures.
Solid working knowledge of computer hardware and desktop software.
Solid working knowledge of Linux and Windows networking environments.
Solid working knowledge managing virtual machine environments.
Ability to learn new things and keep up with the pace of change in technology.
Ability to collect the appropriate information from the user to expedite the resolution to a problem. Demonstrate good judgment in investigating and escalating problems.
Ability to recognize and deal with priorities. Recognize and perform duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned- assisting others as needed.

Experience applying security best practices in a remote work environment.
