ABOUT US
The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.
Programs Facilitator – Community Garden
Grow skills. Grow community. Grow futures.
We’re looking for a Programs Facilitator to lead Growing Together—a hands‑on garden, nursery and micro‑enterprise program supporting young people aged 16–25 to build confidence, purpose and connection.
You’ll bring the edible garden and nursery to life each day, using psychologically informed, relationship‑based practice to create a safe, inclusive space where young people can learn, contribute and thrive. The garden operates as living infrastructure for transition—blending ecology, horticulture, design, construction, healing and enterprise.
About the role
This is a part-time (30.4 hours per week) position. Working Monday – Thursday, 7.30am – 3.36pm (flexible).
Located at the Tom Quinn Centre, Bundaberg Hub. This role is classified under SCHADS level 4.
What You’ll Do
Lead daily activities in the edible garden; coordinate nursery and retail operations with a focus on permaculture and sustainability.
Manage production cycles that supply meals, markets and the TQ Café.
Embed enterprise learning through real‑world activity—propagation, produce, value‑added foods—and support young people to explore micro‑enterprise opportunities.
Facilitate meaningful participation that builds mastery, confidence and connection, using trauma‑aware, psychologically informed approaches.
Recruit, induct and coordinate the Friends of Growing Together volunteer and mentor network.
Maintain partnerships with community, business and First Nations organisations to anchor the program locally.
Support safe food handling, merchandising and point‑of‑sale processes; track outputs including produce volumes, meals and revenue.
Embed permaculture principles (care for earth, care for people, share the surplus) and integrate Landcare/regeneration projects such as Saltwater Creek.
Maintain accurate case notes, risk assessments, safety plans and incident reports, contributing to shared measurement and dashboards.
What You Bring
Certificate IV (or higher) in Youth Work, Community Services or related field—or equivalent experience.
Experience facilitating youth programs in horticulture, food production, hospitality or community enterprise (nursery operations, markets, etc.).
Confidence coordinating volunteers/mentors and building community partnerships.
Understanding of youth homelessness, barriers to participation and commitment to culturally safe, healing‑centred practice.
Role Requirements
Working with Children/Vulnerable People Check
First Aid Certificate
Current QLD Driver’s Licence
