Job description
Overview FM Approvals is searching for a highly motivated business development engineer to drive growth within its fire protection and building materials segments across India and the Middle East. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in identifying new opportunities, enhancing customer engagement, and supporting product certification initiatives in these regions. FM Approvals is a global leader in independent third‑party testing and certification. It evaluates property loss prevention products and services used in commercial and industrial facilities to ensure they meet rigorous standards for quality, technical integrity, and performance. Its worldwide certification process is built on scientific research, comprehensive testing, and more than a century of engineering experience. The FM APPROVED mark is recognized and respected globally, instilling confidence and strengthening credibility in the marketplace. Responsibilities: Drive business development across India and the Middle East aiming to increase the adoption of FM Approved products. Identify, qualify, and engage manufacturers, influencing decision‑makers to pursue FM Approvals certification. Establish and nurture strong relationships with manufacturers, end users, and regulatory stakeholders. Identify, engage and represent FM Approvals at industry seminars, conferences, and trade shows, including delivering technical presentations. Maintain awareness of regulatory and certification requirements in India and Middle East. Travel, including overnight stays, as necessary to support customers and participate in industry events or engagements (approximately 40%). Contribute to certification projects, including scoping, auditing/witnessing, documentation, and reporting. Develop and apply technical expertise across engineering and scientific disciplines to support both internal teams and FM Approvals customers. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of five years’ relevant experience. Experience in business development, technical sales, or marketing within the fire protection industry. (Other industrial sectors may be considered.) Ability to translate technical certification requirements into value propositions for customers. Strong skills in lead management, disciplined follow-up, and stakeholder engagement. Confident communicator with effective presentation skills for client meetings and industry events. Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with manufacturers, labs, and regulatory bodies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Previous travel or work experience in the Middle East is desirable. Familiarity with product certification processes, fire protection products, and FM Approvals/FM Standards is considered an advantage.
