Responsibilities Role and Responsibilities Your goal will be to create a learning environment that provides inmates/detainees the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform vocational tasks. Primary Duties and Responsibilities The Vocational Instructor provides instruction to inmates/detainees for various labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration and practical exercises. Maintains records including testing, daily offender work, attendance and general record keeping. The Vocational Instructor assesses educational needs of inmates, develops lessons plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training. Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators. The Vocational Instructor counsels students concerning their performance, behavior and personal problems. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Competencies Required If you have a natural ability for working in a team with a wide variety of members and you’re truly driven by the joy of seeing your students thrive, this is the right job for you. Apply if you have: High school diploma/equivalency and five (5) years relevant wage-earning work experience required. OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years teaching experience required. Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator’s certificate. (Non-Certified applicants must obtain a State or Florida Educator’s Certificate within twelve (12) months of hire.) NOTE for Veterans/spouses ONLY: If applicant is a Veteran or a Veteran’s spouse (in Florida), they can apply and receive a Temporary License if they meet the following: Minimum of forty-eight (48) months of military service with an honorable/medical discharge. Minimum of sixty (60) college credits with a 2.5 grade point average. Passing score on a Florida subject area examination. GEO Secured Services Facility Overview The facility provides a full range of correctional services including dental, medical and psychological services, education,and vocational training. Work and educational programs are designed to reduce recidivism and include academic and vocational education, vocational planning, substance abuse education, general counseling, life skills and transition planning.
