Make an impact in Public Health Leadership

Core Responsibilities:

In this role you will lead and oversee a public health program an assigned geographic area.  You’ll play a key role in strengthening community health by guiding programs; assessing community needs; and partnering with clinics, physicians, nurses, community groups, and individuals. This position operates with a high level of independence and leadership responsibility performed under limited supervision.

You will also:

Lead and Support Your Team

  • Supervise Staff across the geographic area to ensure program goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Recruit, interview, direct, train, assign, and evaluate team members to support high quality public health services.

Strengthen Community Health

  • Assess and respond to community and regional public health needs
  • Develop or adapt health care and disease prevention plans
  • Provide technical assistance to improve health services in your region

Drive Program Operations

  • Implement agency programs, policies, and standards to ensure quality nursing and public health services
  • Plan and facilitate staff meetings to share updates and address operational needs
  • Ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available

Ensure Compliance and Equity

  • Apply human resource laws, policies, and practices (including AA/EEO, recruitment, performance management, and employee safety)
  • Support a fair, safe, and equitable workplace

Inform Strategy and Decision

  • Prepare reports, records, and surveys to document program services and outcomes
  • Contribute programmatic and financial information to support planning, budgeting, and policy development

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

A seven (7) year combination of education and experience in professional nursing.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  

(These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class). 

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse as issued by the State Board of Nursing and a valid Maine driver’s license.

  Preferred candidates will also have:  

  • Knowledge of public health nursing, including applicable laws, education, and administration.
  • Knowledge of personnel management techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to develop policies, procedures, and budgets.
  • Ability to plan and implement comprehensive orientation and training programs.
