Job description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20+ countries, where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability? Do you want to work on impactful projects, shape the future, and drive change from within?

As an intern, you will contribute to Compleasy, an AI-powered supplier due diligence and ESG intelligence project designed to strengthen sustainability and risk transparency across Roche’s global value chain. The project aims to automate the analysis of unstructured supplier data, identify humanitarian and ecological risks, and support audit-ready, legally robust ESG reporting in a trusted data environment. Within your first 3 months, you are expected to help deliver a proof of concept for AI-based ESG KPI (Environmental, Social, Governance Key Performance Indicators) extraction, a gap analysis of a Compliance Command Center tailored to Roche’s supplier risk categories, a risk visualization dataset, and an implementation roadmap for integration with existing systems. You will also support benchmarking key suppliers against Science Based Targets and Roche standards to identify emissions-related risk in the supply chain. Your work will contribute to more sustainable sourcing, stronger compliance readiness, and more resilient supply chain decision-making. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, sustainability, and global supply chain transformation.

As an intern, you will contribute to a project focused on establishing a miniaturized fluidic micro-purification system for proteins at the microliter scale. The project aims to reduce purification timelines from several days to just a few hours while significantly lowering the use of buffers, solvents, biomass, and energy. Within your first 3 months, you are expected to help validate a new protein purification trap module, perform head-to-head comparisons between miniaturized and classical purification methods, and generate data that supports downstream applications such as Cryo-EM grid writing and mass spectrometry. Your work will support both innovation and sustainability by improving efficiency in protein sample preparation while reducing resource consumption. This internship offers a rare opportunity to work with breakthrough miniaturization technology that directly supports cutting-edge structural biology research.

The Opportunity

  • Test and validate the new protein purification trap module for a microfluidic system using classically tagged proteins

  • Design and execute comparative experiments between the miniaturized micro-purification system and classical bench-scale purification methods

  • Develop and document optimized purification workflows for tagged proteins at the microliter scale

  • Prepare purified protein samples and assess downstream compatibility for applications such as Cryo-EM grid writing

  • Generate and evaluate data on yield, purity, stability, and reproducibility

  • Support troubleshooting of technical challenges in the fluidic system together with instrument experts

  • Contribute to the establishment of a standardized workflow that significantly reduces purification time

  • Document findings clearly to support future workflow optimization and broader implementation

Who You Are

You are enrolled or have completed your Bachelor’s or Master’s studies at a university, preferably in the field of Biochemistry, Biology, or Biophysics field within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.

Furthermore you are

  • Experienced or strongly interested in protein purification techniques such as affinity chromatography and size-exclusion chromatography

  • Familiar with basic protein analytics such as SDS-PAGE, as well as precise liquid handling and laboratory documentation

  • Comfortable with basic statistics and data analysis, for example in Excel; experience with microfluidic systems, protein biochemistry, or Cryo-EM sample preparation is an advantage

  • A structured and detail-oriented problem solver who can work independently and communicate effectively in a cross-functional team

  • Fluent in English; German is a plus

If you meet most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.

Additional information

The internship is expected to start between 1 and 16 July 2026 and will last at least 3 months.
