We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors Center – Radar Systems Department is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to join our Spectrum Sharing team, supporting the SPY-6 Family of Radars. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing solutions that enable coexistence between incumbent Federal Systems and commercial wireless providers. This role requires an in-depth understanding of Federal Communication Commission (FCC) standards governing interactions between the Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial systems. Responsibilities include evaluating radar performance, generating system-level designs, and tracking these designs from technical memorandum to requirements through implementation and testing. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in radar systems design, commercial wireless infrastructure (including 5G Core), and the ability to bridge communication effectively across these domains.

What You Will Do

  • Develop concepts of operation (CONOPS) for radar systems, focusing on spectrum management and coexistence of DoD and commercial wireless systems.

  • Lead technical discussions both internally and externally related to the design and deployment of spectrum-sharing solutions.

  • Generate system and software requirements for implementation.

  • Support assessment of developed solutions for validity and robustness under varying test conditions.

  • Collaborate with program leadership and the Office of the Chief Engineer to guide future developments in spectrum technology.

  • Identify and mitigate technical challenges, working with systems engineers, software engineers, and test engineers to resolve and verify solutions.

  • Present findings and solutions to program leadership and external customers.

  • Travel may be required occasionally (approximately 1 week per quarter).

  • This role can be based out of Tewksbury, MA or Marlborough, MA

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience with commercial telecom industry including FCC standards and compliance.

  • Experience with MATLAB.

  • Experience with design, development, analysis of radar system and/or software architectures.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Design and engineering experience with modern 5G technologies, including array beamforming, 5G Core Network architecture, and commercial wireless error correction capabilities.

  • Expertise in telecom interference robustness and its downstream impact on user performance.

  • Experience with signal processing techniques in complex propagation environments.

  • Experience with C++, Python, or similar.

  • Experience with requirements development tools, such as DOORS.

  • Systems engineering experience on DoD systems.

What We Offer
