Contract Details

  • Rate: $70-85/hr
  • Hours: 40 hrs/week
  • Contract: May-December with high potential to extend through 2027
  • Location: Must be based in Atlanta. In-person collaboration as needed and eventually this role to convert to FTE which will require a hybrid schedule.

The Brand Identity Sr. Design Lead is a visionary designer and brand steward who sets the standard for how the brand looks and feels across every touchpoint. This role owns and evolves the organization’s visual identity systems—both for the masterbrand and sub-brands—and serves as the primary design authority within the Brand Design team. Operating at the intersection of creative direction, hands-on design execution, and cross-functional partnership, this person works closely with the Brand Design Team Lead to cast and protect the visual vision of the brand.

This role spans three core areas of work:

(1) Visual identity creation—conceiving and building new visual identity systems for the brand and its sub-brands, both in-house and in oversight of external agencies

(2) Design consulting—serving as an always-available creative resource for internal teams and stakeholders, reviewing and providing direction on design work daily

(3) Project and brand stewardship—owning budgets, working with legal, writing design briefs, and representing the brand’s visual standards to the broader organization, including presenting to large internal audiences through quarterly Brand Immersion sessions.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable leading creative vision and rolling up their sleeves—someone who thrives in a varied, fast-paced environment where no two days look the same.

The Design Lead will lead development of design, strategy and messaging for customer-facing brand identity projects and deployment, including (but not limited to):

  • Masterbrand visual identity system
  • Digital design systems
  • Cow design system
  • Kids & Family design system
  • Environmental graphics guidelines
  • Photography guidelines
  • Brand extensions

Responsibilities

  • Lead creative vision and development of visual identity systems across the Masterbrand and Brand Extensions in collaboration with internal teams and external agencies

  • Develop, refresh and maintain a variety of visual identity systems to drive brand consistency

  • Create clear and strategic design briefs to define objectives, design strategy and deliverables

  • Project, coordinate, and work cross-functionally with Marketing, internal teams, agencies, vendors and additional counterparts

  • Responsible for managing budgets, timelines, project planning, communications and details for multiple projects in various stages at once

  • Partner cross-functionally with internal teams, external agencies, and vendors; build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the organization

  • Represent and present brand visual identity systems to large internal audiences, including quarterly Brand Immersion sessions attended by approximately 300 people

  • Demonstrated experience developing and stewarding visual identity systems, including both in-house execution and oversight of external agency partners
  • Strong hands-on design skills with deep proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); comfortable working across print, digital, environmental, and packaging applications

  • Experience creating and writing design briefs, managing project budgets, and navigating legal and contract review processes

  • Confident presenter with the ability to communicate brand vision clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences—from small creative teams to large cross-functional groups

  • Experience working within a brand design or in-house creative team; familiarity with how visual identity systems are developed, applied, and governed across a large organization

What We’re Looking For

  • A portfolio that demonstrates refined, elevated design sensibility—exceptional typography, considered composition, and a strong point of view. Brand scale doesn’t matter; what matters is the quality and intentionality of the work

  • A background rooted in graphic design and branding—not advertising or art direction. Candidates whose portfolios are primarily campaign or ad work are not the right fit for this role

  • Someone who thrives in variety—equally energized by concepting a new visual identity system, giving detailed creative feedback, writing a design brief, and presenting to a room of 300 people. This role is not for someone who wants to be heads-down designing every day

  • A natural collaborator and communicator who can build trust with stakeholders across all levels and translate creative vision into clear, compelling direction

  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Atlanta, GA area; this role requires in-person collaboration

There is an opportunity for this role to convert to a full-time employee after 1-2 years on contract.
