Job Description:
This position functions as both a Patient Care Tech (PCT) and a Orderly in the Operating Room. A Patient Care Tech functions as a clinical support partner assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks (including clerical duties) and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. A Operating Room Orderly transports patients to and from the OR, functions as a clinical support partner to assist the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional, organizes equipment, and provides general cleaning of surgical suites.📍 Location: Intermountain Medical Center – Murray, Utah
🏢 Department/Unit: Surgical Center - PACU/Operating Room
📅 Shifts: Part-time | 24 hours/week | 12-hour shifts
🕒 Schedule: Monday - Friday days - no nights, weekends or major holidays
💵 Pay: Starting at $18.22+ (based on patient care experience)

Job Essentials
Patient Care Duties:
Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care which may include toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs.
Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.
Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed.
Based on unit, may also be responsible for telemetry duties.
Can function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patient, taking care of patient care needs, and involving other members of the patient care team as needed.
When working on a clinical unit, may be required to take medications from the delivery system to the RN.
Operating Room Duties:
Able to apply standards of and maintain sterile technique appropriately
Getting and restocking supplies as needed
Assist with turnover of the rooms, including cleaning appropriately after the case and preparing the room for the next case
Responsible to assist anesthesia when needed. Including turnover anesthesia equip. Assisting anesthesia wherever needed.
Keep department clean including keeping hallways uncluttered by returning supplies/equipment to their proper storage areas
Responsible for transporting patients to and from surgery

Transports specimens appropriately including blood and blood products
May scrub into procedures and assist with organ holds, extremity holds, camera holds, and retractor holds
May open sterile supplies
Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient/family requests
Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly, and secures qualified assistance as needed.
When working on a clinical unit, may be required to take medications from the delivery system to the RN
Collaborates and consults with RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team for best patient care. Demonstrates effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.
Implements plan of care as delegated
Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice and performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards. Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency.
Patient Care Support and Clerical Activities:
Answer patient call lights.
Schedules tests and treatments as ordered.
May provide access control to visitor entrance to secure units.
Answers unit telephones and disseminates information appropriately.
Processes, organizes, files and maintains patient and unit records.
Transcribes physician orders.
Acts as unit receptionist.
May organize, stock and maintain supplies on the unit.

Minimum Qualifications
Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice.
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Pass Basic Aseptic Technique class. Required within 90 days of hire or transfer into this job.
At the time of hire, Utah candidates must meet one of the following CNA certification requirements:
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in the state of Utah.
- If CNA certificate is expired, must be renewed before start date.
- Completion of a recent Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program.
- Verification of CNA program completion is required (program must have been completed within the past (1) year).
- CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.
- Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing Course.
- Must have earned a passing grade within the past two (2) years. Official transcript is required.
- CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- CNA experience with an valid CNA certification.
- Current enrollment in nursing school.
- Experience using electronic medical records.
- Experience with word processing software.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Passed a Basic Aseptic Technique class.
Physical Requirements
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
