What We Offer The Wound/Ostomy Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients with complex wounds, ostomies, and skin integrity issues. This role provides expert clinical guidance in wound management, ostomy care, and prevention strategies while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes. The Wound/Ostomy RN also educates patients, families, and healthcare staff on proper care techniques and best practices, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care across the continuum. What You'll Do 1. Wound Care Assess and treat chronic or acute wounds (pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds, burns) Perform dressing changes and select appropriate wound care products Monitor healing progress and prevent infection Use advanced treatments (e.g., negative pressure wound therapy) 2. Ostomy Care Care for patients with ostomies (colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy) Measure and fit ostomy appliances Educate patients on how to clean, manage, and troubleshoot their ostomy Prevent and treat skin irritation around the stoma 3. Patient & Family Education Teach wound care techniques for home Provide emotional support (especially for new ostomy patients) Help patients adapt to lifestyle changes 4. Care Planning & Collaboration Work with physicians, surgeons, dietitians, and physical therapists Develop individualized care plans Recommend products and treatment strategies 5. Prevention Help reduce hospital-acquired pressure injuries Train staff on proper skin care and wound prevention protocols What We're Looking For Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course. Experience : One year relevant experience, preferred. Licensure/Certification : Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required. Certification in Wound/Ostomy care preferred. WOCN certification is required within 3 years of hire.Completion of Wound/Ostomy Course provided by accredited program. This must be completed within 2 years of hire and certification should be achieved within 6 months to 1 year after program is complete. Why Choose Novant Health?
