Job description
To manage an effective system to maintain an accurate record of Stores Inventory Control the process of purchasing Plant supplies.
Purchasing
- Process stock and non-stock purchase orders to Plant ERP system (JD Edwards).
- Communication of electronically approved Purchase orders to suppliers arrange physical delivery of Inventory items and to discuss any queries.
- Monitor open purchase orders, following up any overdue items with originators.
- Timely system receipt of purchase orders.
- Maintain a system of obtaining supplier quotes and discussing price with locally managed supplies with a view to optimize value for the plant.
- Comply with audit requirements and P2P processes.
- Adopt a proactive approach to minimize logged invoice cases.
Inventory Control
- Ensure inventory locations and responsible zones are well organized and observe a high standard of housekeeping to allow effective access and monitoring.
- Co-ordinate a cycle counting of all Stores items on at least a bi-annual basis to maximise accuracy of Inventory.
- Conduct critical stock checks for high turnover items.
- Aim for zero stock outs of items through control of inventory.
- Minimise over stocking by review of re-order levels and recommended Inventory quantities to enhance working capital position.
- Support users of Barcoding Stores issues and vending machine systems.
- Work closely with the in-site representative to ensure plant value through clear expectations.
- Review and monitor the cost of stores issues and highlight cost-saving opportunities.
Other:
- Adhere to quality and food initiatives with regards to Food Safety.
- Drive a fork lift truck to unload chemicals and IBCs and assist in sorting the Chemical Storage area.
H&S & Environment
- Comply with Sonoco EHS policy and statutory requirements at all times.
- Lead by example on all matters of Health & Safety.
- Encouragement of others to engage in safety discussions and projects.
- Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with all applicable safety procedures.
- Completion of all mandatory Convergence training and refreshers as required in a timely manner.
- Practice safe working techniques in all that you do.
- Support the business with any safety related initiatives and programs.
- Development of safety-related skills, including attending any safety related training as and when required.
- Support the business with carrying out safety observations and discussions with others, finding any fixes or improvements which can be proposed to the site.
- Effective waste management control within the relevant area of responsibility, to control, reduce and eliminate waste within anything that we do.
- Adhere to high levels of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and ensure 5S is carried out at all times.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Working Knowledge of the ERP System (JD Edwards)
- Working knowledge of MS Office Software Packages
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience of Purchasing and Inventory Control in a Manufacturing environment
- Work productively and efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines whilst demonstrating attention to detail and high-quality performance.

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate that they can work productively and efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines whilst demonstrating attention to detail and high-quality performance. They must possess sound verbal and written communication skills, have previous experience of managing goods and services in a manufacturing/engineering environment, have good working knowledge of MS Office software, ideally possess a FLT licence and can drive and implement continuous improvement.
