Job description

AECOM Tishman is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Estimator to support various building projects within the Northeast Region. This position plays a critical role in the construction industry, leveraging expertise to ensure accurate project cost estimates, effective resource allocation, and strategic planning. This position will be based in Boston, MA.

The Senior Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects, analyzing project requirements, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure financial feasibility. With over 10 years of experience, the individual brings advanced technical knowledge, industry insights, and leadership capabilities to drive successful project outcomes.

This role is ideal for individuals with a deep understanding of construction processes and a passion for delivering high-quality projects within budgetary constraints, where experience enables the ability to handle complex challenges and contribute significantly to organizational growth.

Job Summary:

Responsible for activities related to estimating all elements of project cost including including labor (manual and non-manual), materials, and permanent equipment, supplies, consumables and expenses, construction equipment rental and operating costs, contingency, escalation, program risk, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation & Analysis

    • Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
    • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and project documents to identify cost factors.
    • Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to ensure precision in calculations.
  • Project Planning & Budgeting

    • Develop comprehensive project budgets and ensure alignment with client expectations.
    • Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle to prevent budget overruns.
    • Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and value engineering.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration

    • Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to understand project scope and requirements.
    • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
    • Present estimates and financial reports to stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
  • Risk Assessment

    • Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project costs and timelines.
    • Develop contingency plans to mitigate financial risks.
  • Leadership & Mentorship

    • Lead and mentor junior estimators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies to enhance estimating practices.
  • Compliance & Documentation

    • Ensure estimates comply with local building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
    • Maintain detailed records of estimates, contracts, and project documentation for future reference.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and ten (10) years of relevant experience related to construction estimating of all elements of project cost including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, etc. or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience managing large, complex projects across various building sections (e.g. residential, commercial, industrial)
  • Experience with construction estimating software (e.g. Bluebeam, Building Connected, On-Screen Takeoff) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Preferred Requirement:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting ground-up construction projects in the Northeast US market.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • In-depth understanding of construction methods, materials, industry standards, and local building codes and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing proposals, reports, and presentations, and for effective negotiation.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and advanced estimating techniques.
  • Excellent ability to explain complex cost estimates and proposals clearly to clients, management, and project teams, defending assumptions and methodologies.
  • MEP/FP estimating experience.
