Job description

The impact you’ll make:

As a Māori Sector Manager, you will play a leadership role in supporting Māori organisations to grow and protect their pūtea, assets and enterprises for the benefit of whānau, hapū and iwi. You will bring both technical expertise and cultural understanding to your work, helping Māori clients navigate complexity while remaining aligned to their values and aspirations.

This role is suited to someone who is motivated by purpose, comfortable working in Māori governance and leadership contexts, and committed to contributing positively to Māori economic and social outcomes.

Your typical day may include:

  • Leading and managing a portfolio of Māori sector clients, including trusts, incorporations and Māori‑owned entities
  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with Māori governors, executives and stakeholders
  • Providing high‑quality business advisory support, including financial reporting, tax, and strategic insight
  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements, tax returns and management accounts
  • Identifying risks, opportunities and solutions that reflect Māori values and intergenerational objectives
  • Acting as a role model and mentor for accountants and senior accountants, supporting their development
  • Contributing to governance reporting and decision‑making processes
  • Working collaboratively with Hourua Pae Rau and wider Deloitte teams to deliver integrated Māori sector solutions

Your expertise:

In addition to strong technical accounting capability, this role requires a clear commitment to working in and for the Māori sector.

You’ll also bring:

  • 5+ years’ accounting or business advisory experience
  • CA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience working with Māori organisations, iwi entities, or in kaupapa Māori environments (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of accounting and tax issues relevant to Māori entities and SMEs in Aotearoa
  • Experience in financial modelling, forecasting, or senior finance roles (desirable)
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring staff, and managing competing priorities
  • Cultural competence and confidence engaging in Māori contexts, with a willingness to continue developing this capability
