Description of Work
*** This is a readvertisement. All previous applicants MUST reapply to be considered. ***The Tidewater Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II position to work in the greenhouse unit. This position supports work in an agricultural research environment primarily executing detailed research projects, collecting data, and providing labor for the daily operation of the head house/greenhouse.
Key Responsibilities:
• Data collection such as growth measurements and yield data.
• Landscaping: Mowing, trimming, raking, planting, pruning, and routine cleanup of grounds.
• Operate agricultural equipment
• Irrigation setup
• Hand planting, spraying, harvesting and any other task associated with general farm practices.
• Support crops/field research as seasonal workload demands.
Normal working hours are 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday but some overtime, weekend and Holiday work may be required during planting, irrigation, and harvest season.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $49,000
- General knowledge of greenhouse agricultural practices.
- Ability to maintain equipment commonly used in a greenhouse setting.
- Ability to effectively operate and maintain tractors, mowers and associated farm equipment.
- Ability to properly mix and apply common agricultural chemicals.
- Ability to use a variety of power and hand tools commonly used in equipment, facility and yard maintenance.
Obtain within twelve months of employment the following:
- Forklift driver certification (issued by the Research Division).
- Public Pesticide Applicators License.
- Obtain medical clearance to wear half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
