Agriculture Tutor  
Location: Auckland  
Part-time | Permanent | On-site

Please note this is a permanent part-time role, working 16 hours per week on Mondays and Tuesdays during the school term, based at our Palmerston North campus and within the surrounding community, with the potential for increased hours and responsibilities as the role develops.

About the role: 

We are seeking to appoint a passionate Agriculture Tutor who will be responsible for delivering our Agriculture Programme. You’ll guide learners through practical, hands-on content with a strong focus on real-world farming skills, including fencing and farm vehicle operation, while supporting their growth in essential industry knowledge and skills. 

The successful candidate will teach students from diverse backgrounds, including youth, second-chance learners, and those seeking employment in the land-based industries. You’ll provide a fun, safe, and engaging environment where learners are motivated to succeed and can see a clear pathway toward further study or employment. 

This role offers a unique opportunity to positively influence the next generation of agricultural and horticultural professionals, while also being well suited to someone currently working in the industry and looking to share their skills. There is potential for this role to grow in scope and hours over time for the right candidate as our programmes and delivery expand. 

Learners at our Land Based Training Schools complete their studies equipped with the skills and knowledge to progress onto higher levels of education and to enter the workforce. 

 

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Teach and assess learners in our Agriculture Programme, with a strong emphasis on practical delivery including fencing and farm vehicle operation   
  • Create and implement weekly training plans and ensure students meet course entry criteria    Maintain up-to-date training records, assessments, and student progress reports   
  • Embed literacy and numeracy unit standards into delivery, ensuring learners meet their improvement benchmark   
  • Mentor learners toward successful qualification completion   
  • Support work placements and liaise with industry stakeholders to ensure relevance and employability   
  • Ensure compliance with NZQA and internal quality standards   

About you:

  • Strong practical experience working in Agriculture environments (e.g. fencing, farm systems, machinery and vehicle operation)   
  • A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Agriculture or a related field   
  • Proven ability to mentor and engage youth and adult learners   
  • Experience in teaching or training is highly desirable, though not essential   
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to support learners to achieve embedded unit standards   
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills   
  • Confidence working with diverse groups and maintaining learner motivation   
  • A willingness to gain the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (ALNE) Level 5 qualification and Unit Standard 4098 (with support from Land Based Training, if not already held)
