Junior Medical Writer
Search Location: UK/EU – preference for physical presence at the Milano Campus OR London Campus, however the role can be based remotely in either the UK or Italy.

Overview As a Junior Medical Writer at VML Health, you'll play a crucial role in helping our clients and colleagues navigate the maze of scientific language to uncover the compelling human truths at the core. With around two years of experience under your belt, you're ready to further develop your skills in translating complex data and academic insights into engaging, accessible, and compliant content for a range of audiences.
In this role, you'll be actively involved in picking apart scientific papers or presentations, distilling key messages, and transforming science into compelling stories. You'll hone your ability to reference content meticulously, ensuring it stands up to even the strictest medical and regulatory review. This is an exciting opportunity to build on your existing knowledge of pharma regulations and ethical guidelines, working under the guidance of experienced professionals to further develop your capabilities in assessing and refining your own work.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and Translate: Work with scientific data related to products or competitors, translating complex information into clear, real-world benefits within the context of branded campaign strategies and messaging.
- Content Creation: Develop channel-, message-, and tone-appropriate copy for a variety of audiences and media types, from initial concept to final execution, with support from senior writers.
- Versatile Writing: Confidently craft copy of varying lengths and styles, from concise social media posts and headlines to detailed articles and website content.
- Client & Team Collaboration: Engage and collaborate with clients from marketing, medical, and compliance backgrounds, and facilitate effective communication across internal teams to achieve outstanding client deliverables.
- Strategic Understanding: Develop a keen understanding of client strategies, assessing how your work effectively addresses specific business or communications needs.
- Regulatory Adherence: Apply your understanding of relevant industry codes of practice to ensure all content is accurate, balanced, and compliant, with guidance from senior team members.
- Learning & Development: Proactively seek feedback, learn from senior writers, and stay updated on industry best practices and scientific advancements.
Qualifications
- Education: A degree in life sciences (e.g., Biology, Pharmacology, Biomedical Science, Medicine, etc.).
- Experience: Approximately 2 years of proven experience as a medical writer or medical copywriter within an agency or pharmaceutical setting, demonstrating a portfolio of work.
- Regulatory Knowledge: A solid understanding of relevant industry codes of practice and a commitment to upholding the highest ethical and regulatory standards.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a strong ability to distil complex information into clear, concise, and engaging language.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail, particularly in referencing and fact-checking.
- Collaborative Spirit: A proactive, can-do attitude and a desire to work collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.
- Oncology Experience: Previous experience or a strong interest in oncology is highly advantageous.
