Role Purpose

The Senior Compliance Manager (Investigation) will lead and execute confidential, timely, and defensible investigations into potential breaches of law, regulation, or internal policy; manage and triage whistleblowing disclosures; and deliver risk-based Compliance Monitoring & Testing (CMT) reviews across the Group.

The role partners with Legal, People & Culture, Internal Audit, Risk, and Business Lines to drive root-cause remediation and strengthen the control environment. This is a hands-on role suited to a self-starter with sound judgement, excellent writing ability, and strong stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities

1) Investigations

  • Lead end-to-end investigations into allegations of misconduct (e.g., fraud, corruption, conflicts, market abuse, sanctions red flags, data/privacy incidents, harassment linked to conduct risk), ensuring consistency with Group Investigation Procedures and local laws.

  • Perform case intake, scoping, evidence preservation, interviews, analysis, findings, and closure with clear audit trails.

  • Draft high-quality investigation reports with facts, analysis, credibility assessments, findings, and recommended actions (disciplinary, control fixes, policy updates).

  • Coordinate with other departments on parallel reviews; escalate material matters to senior management and the audit committee as required.

  • Maintain chain-of-custody and confidentiality; manage external counsel or forensic vendors where needed.

  • Track remediation and ensure lessons learned inform policy, training, and controls.

2) Whistleblowing Management

  • Serve as a key handler for whistleblowing channels (hotline, email, web portal, in-person), ensuring confidentiality, protection from retaliation, and timely responses.

  • Triage and risk-rate disclosures; allocate to investigation or referral pathways; provide feedback to reporters where appropriate.

  • Monitor compliance with global and local whistleblowing laws and regulations; support periodic reporting to senior management/audit committee.

3) Compliance Monitoring & Testing (CMT)

  • Develop and execute a risk-based annual CMT plan covering key regulatory risks, conduct risks and compliance controls across jurisdictions.

  • Design test scripts, sampling methodologies, and data-driven testing where feasible; perform walkthroughs and control effectiveness testing.

  • Produce clear CMT reports with issue grading, root cause analysis, and practical remediation recommendations; follow up on action plans to closure.

  • Contribute to continuous control monitoring (CCM) and use of data analytics/dashboards for early risk detection.

4) Governance, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate case and CMT records, metrics, and dashboards for management and Board reporting.

  • Contribute to policy and procedure updates for Investigations, Whistleblowing, and CMT.

  • Deliver targeted training to business and control functions based on emerging themes.

  • Support regulatory examinations and requests; liaise with regulators as needed

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Accounting, Business, Criminology, or related field.

  • Experience: 6–10+ years in investigations, compliance, internal audit, or forensic services, preferably in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment.

  • Experience in Compliance operations, including handling a wide range of compliance issues beyond investigations (e.g. advisory support, regulatory matters, policy implementation, issue management and remediation).

  • Technical:

    • Proven track record leading sensitive investigations and drafting defensible reports.

    • Strong understanding of whistleblowing frameworks and anti-retaliation requirements.

    • Hands-on experience with compliance monitoring/testing methodologies and issue remediation.

    • Familiarity with data analytics tools (e.g., Excel/PowerQuery, Power BI/Tableau).

    • Understanding of privacy, data handling, and evidence preservation.

  • Certifications (preferred): CFE, CAMS, CIA, CRCM, ICA (Investigations/AML/Sanctions), or equivalent.
