Overview Being good neighbors – helping people, investing in our communities, and making the world a better place – is who we are at State Farm. It is at the core of how we operate and the reason for our success. Come join a #1 team and do some good HYBRID: Qualified candidates must live within a 180-mile radius of a hub location listed below and should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment. HUB LOCATIONS: Bloomington, IL; Dunwoody, GA; Richardson, TX; or Tempe, AZ SPONSORSHIP: Applicants for this position are required to be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization (e.g. H-1B visa) for this opportunity. Why You Should Join Us Breadth of impact: Your work improves how multiple teams build, ship, and operate software across the C3 suite—not just one application. Variety of work: You’ll rotate between hands-on engineering (tooling, automation, POCs), problem-solving and enablement (guides, patterns, unblockers), and modernization efforts that matter to the enterprise. High-visibility initiatives: Contribute to major programs like MAX and ECS Modernization while helping shape practical standards and the “golden paths” teams use every day.\ Build the multiplier role: If you enjoy being the person who makes everyone around you more effective, through clarity, reusable solutions, and better engineering practices, this role is designed for that. Grow Your Skills, Grow Your Potential Responsibilities As a Software Engineer / Lead Software Engineer in Enterprise Technology (ET) Claims, Claims Core Capability Suite (C3) Architecture & Engineering, you will work horizontally across the suite to accelerate delivery and improve technical outcomes. You will partner with product teams to remove recurring roadblocks through prototypes, practical guidance, and tooling, supporting key initiatives like Modern Associate Experience (MAX), Enterprise Claim System (ECS) Modernization, and other efforts tied to our vision of a frictionless claim lifecycle through stability, efficiency, and guidance. What you will do Build suite-enabling tooling, reusable patterns, and reference implementations that improve developer experience and consistency. Deliver POCs/technical spikes to validate approaches for modernization, integration, performance, resiliency, and security. Create “how-to" guides, playbooks, and documentation to help teams move faster and operate more reliably. Improve system health/stability and visibility (observability, operational readiness), including insights into reliability and cost drivers. Facilitate knowledge sharing across the suite (demos, office hours, share-outs) and help advance targeted suite initiatives end-to-end. Provide technical leadership through mentoring, alignment on standards/patterns, and driving cross-team execution. Qualifications Required 3 plus years of experience with full stack development using Java/Spring and JavaScript. Working with REST APIs and integration patterns. Experience with Cloud technologies (AWS preferred) and IaC (Terraform) Working with CI/CD pipelines and Containers (Docker, Kubernetes) Testing frameworks and practices (unit/integration/UI/performance) such as JUnit, Playwright/Cypress, Karate, Cucumber. Observability tools (Splunk, Dynatrace, CloudWatch, Elastic/OpenSearch) and operational excellence (runbooks, alerting, incident learnings). Other Skills Ability to influence technical direction across teams and mentor other engineers. Strong engineering fundamentals (design, secure coding, testing, and maintainability) and experience delivering production software. Ability to work across multiple layers of the stack (apps/APIs, CI/CD, operations) and learn new technologies quickly. Strong ownership, collaboration, and communication skills; comfortable operating in ambiguity. Our Benefits Because work-life balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!
