Position Summary

The IT Manager is responsible for overseeing the credit union’s information technology infrastructure, including both cloud-based and on-premises systems. This role leads and manages a team of IT professionals and partners closely with business units to ensure the security, availability, and reliability of all IT systems. The IT Manager develops and implements IT policies, procedures, and best practices, and ensures technology operations support organizational goals while meeting security and regulatory requirements.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the IT team to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and support of the credit union’s information technology systems.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain IT policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure the security, availability, and reliability of IT infrastructure.

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of new IT projects, system upgrades, and technology initiatives.

  • Assist in the development and administration of the IT department budget, including planning for hardware, software, licensing, and maintenance contracts.

  • Evaluate existing IT systems and infrastructure to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Monitor system performance and reliability and recommend enhancements or upgrades to support operational and business needs.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and recommend appropriate technology solutions for the credit union.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to information security, data privacy, and IT operations.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions and general operating policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Knowledge of personal computers, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software.

  • Knowledge of information technology systems, including application architecture and design, computer hardware, operating systems, and enterprise software, with an understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and interoperability.

  • Knowledge of IT governance, best practices, and regulatory requirements applicable to financial institutions, including risk management, compliance, and audit standards.

  • Knowledge of network and information security principles, including authentication, authorization, encryption, intrusion detection/prevention, and secure system design.

  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure components, including network architecture, servers, databases, and cloud-based platforms (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

  • Knowledge of IT project management methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall, and their application to system development, implementation, and operational initiatives.

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain, and their potential business and operational applications within the credit union or financial services industry.

  • Skill in project management, including the ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize multiple tasks and initiatives while consistently meeting deadlines.

  • Skill in problem-solving and analytical thinking, with the ability to quickly assess issues, identify root causes, and implement effective IT solutions.

  • Skill in vendor management, including negotiating contracts, managing third‑party relationships, and ensuring vendor performance aligns with organizational requirements.

  • Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications, and adding devices.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively in plain language to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to organize, supervise, and direct a multi-functional data processing or information technology department.

  • Ability to develop, interpret, and apply program policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to handle, manage, and protect sensitive and confidential information in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to efficiently understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform routine duties without close supervision, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other team members.

  • Ability to coordinate several concurrent activities simultaneously.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.

  • The team member will ensure policies, procedures, and programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals, and compliant with professional standards.

  • The team member performs routine and generally related tasks without supervisory direction.

  • Tasks may occasionally have to be coordinated, integrated, and/or prioritized.

  • Courses of action are determined by established procedures and/or their leader.

  • The team member’s work is reviewed periodically for accuracy, completion, and compliance with the policies and procedures.

  • The team member uses independent judgment in making decisions.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • To perform this job successfully, the team member is frequently required to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Daily movements include sitting, standing, reaching, and grasping; operating computers and other office equipment; moving about the office; and attending possible onsite and offsite meetings. 

  • The team member must be able to exchange information, in person, in writing, and via telephone. Some degree of stress results from contact with management and other team members.

  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across the office and load them onto shelves for various needs.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Work involves the typical risks and discomforts associated with an office environment but is usually in an adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field required. 

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in information technology, including system administration or in a similar role required. 

  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience. 

  • Willingness and ability to provide on-call support outside of regular business hours, as needed, to address IT emergencies.

  • Experience in the financial services industry, specifically credit unions, is highly desirable. 

  • At least one certification in Comptia A+, Comptia Network+, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft 365 preferred.
