Resmed
Senior Design Engineer
Salary
Job description
Let’s Talk About the Role
You’ll be part of Sleep Futures, a hands‑on research and technology team focused on exploring, building, and learning from next‑generation sleep products. This role suits an engineering generalist who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys rapid prototyping, and is motivated by turning loosely defined problems into tangible, testable solutions.
Let’s Talk About Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of exploratory sleep‑related products, sub‑systems, and concepts, from early ideation through functional prototypes and learning builds.
Operate as an engineering all‑rounder, contributing across integrated hardware systems including mechanical design, electronics, sensing technologies, and overall system behaviour.
Translate loosely defined user, clinical, and technology needs into clear design concepts, engineering requirements, and testable hypotheses.
Design, build, and iterate rapid prototypes to validate assumptions related to comfort, usability, sensing performance, robustness, and manufacturability.
Plan and execute targeted verification, experimentation, and learning activities appropriate to early‑stage concept maturity, and interpret results to guide design direction.
Collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners across Industrial Design, Systems, Electronics, Firmware, Software, Algorithms, Clinical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory.
Work effectively at software and firmware interfaces, supporting requirements definition, system understanding, test methods, and hands‑on debugging where needed.
Ensure design activities are conducted within the ResMed Quality Management System, with rigor and documentation scaled appropriately to concept maturity.
Mentor and support less‑senior engineers, contributing to technical capability development and hands‑on culture within the Sleep Futures team.
Let’s Talk About Qualifications & Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a closely related discipline.
Significant experience in product design and development, spanning concept generation, prototyping, and early verification.
Strong hands‑on capability in CAD, physical prototyping, and iterative development.
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast‑moving, ambiguous environments, while maintaining sound engineering judgement and attention to fundamentals.
Preferred
Experience working with integrated hardware systems, such as wearable devices, consumer electronics, or sensing‑enabled products.
Practical understanding of software and firmware concepts, with the ability to collaborate effectively with software and firmware engineers.
Exposure to sensing technologies (e.g. EEG, PPG, motion, bio‑signals)
Experience engaging suppliers and manufacturing partners during early feasibility, rapid iteration, and learning‑build phases.
