Job Summary
The CRNA provides anesthesia services to patients. General responsibilities include evaluation of patients' medical history, participation in selection of type of anesthesia, administration and management of anesthetic as well as monitoring of patients before, during, and after procedures.Essential Functions
Works directly with patients to provide information related to anesthesia and in preparation for procedures.
Collaborates with anesthesia, nursing and surgical teams when determining, communicating and managing appropriate types of anesthetic to be used, ensuring quality and safety.
Conducts the induction and maintenance of anesthesia under the direction of an appointed supervisor. Administers general (intravenous / inhalation) and regional anesthesia and, as required, serves as a resource related to anesthesia care within the OR and patient care environments.
Inserts invasive monitoring lines as required for an anesthetic; interprets the data and addresses as needed.
Monitors the life support functions of patients during period of anesthesia for procedures or emergencies as needed. Assesses, interprets and treats physiologic responses to anesthesia that include but not limited to oxygenation, circulation and ventilation. In care team environments, communicates necessary updates of patients’ condition and follows documentation protocols.
Prepares and evaluates the safety of anesthetic equipment, supplies, and drugs. Participates in drug or operational audits, projects and meetings as needed.
Works with the staff of the Pharmacy department in handling and use of drugs and related agents. Follows medication administration and waste protocols.
Provides observation and care in immediate post operative period until a report of pertinent information has been given to and responsibility for patient accepted by the RN or MD covering the appropriate recovery area.

Qualifications
Master's Degree Nurse Anesthesia Practitioner required
Licenses and Credentials
Anesthetist, Certified Registered Nurserequired
Massachusetts Registered Nurse preferred
Experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics and pharmacology as related to anesthesia.
Cultural competence and language skills for patient population is desired.
Demonstrates clinical competence within the scope of clinical practice standards set by the department.
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based care setting, with the ability to work independently as well as in a care team to deliver high quality care.
Effective interpersonal skills to work with surgeons and staff in a variety of cases and environments.
Ability to keep up with up to date best practices in the field of anesthesia.
