Position Description & Qualifications

Join a dynamic team at Serco, where you'll work on high-profile, challenging projects supporting the U.S. Navy's Team Submarine Program! We are looking for a Data Engineer/Scientist to make significant contributions at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. Bring your expertise in data engineering and analytics to enhance military defense and ensure the safety of our sailors.

This position requires an Active or Current Secret clearance or eligibility for one.

As a Data Engineer/Scientist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the VIRGINIA Class Program Office (PMS 450), which oversees the design, construction, and delivery of the U.S. Navy's latest attack submarine. You will provide vital technical support and advisory services to various teams, facilitating collaboration across multiple technical stacks, including Flankspeed, AI/ML, and Digital Transformation.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Assisting in the complete system product life-cycle including requirements analysis, design, implementation, sustainment, and integration.
  • Preparing and participating in System Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs) such as Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews.
  • Managing, reporting, and mitigating technical risks while effectively communicating progress to stakeholders.
  • Decomposing system capabilities into software/hardware and process requirements, collaborating with stakeholders to clarify system requirements.
  • Assisting in scoping technical projects; including planning, scheduling, and performance tracking.
  • Providing Courses of Action and trade-off analysis to aid design decisions related to cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Generating technical documents and artifacts such as System Engineering Plans and Configuration Management Plans.
  • Helping with Media Management and messaging tasks.
  • Supporting and managing various Navy Systems including Flank Speed, uNNPI / NIPR, and others.
  • Assisting in App management and SharePoint Platform development.

To succeed in this role, you should have

  • The ability to obtain a secret clearance.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, management information systems, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Software Engineering or Technical Project Management.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the Power Platform Suite (Power BI, Power Automate, Power App).
  • Familiarity with the Software Engineering Lifecycle, Linux, Python, GitHub, and Agile methodologies.
  • A strong foundation in Linear Algebra.
